Have they given up on Tejada, or is it still in a holding pattern to wait and see how he does in spring training? Btw: I saw Furcal signed w/ the Marlins earlier....
Furcal to Marlins, helping Tejada retain role - Mets Blog - ESPN New York

As far as signing a SP goes....other than Arroyo, and maybe now even Colon, who else is on the Sandy radar ?

I still have some faith in Tejada. I think he can be a solid player and I think he got in his own head a bit last season. As for starting pitchers, no idea who else we could get, doesn't have to be great, just somebody that can eat innings.

Mets will watch Cuban defector Erisbel Arruebarruena this weekend

The Mets – and other teams – are expected to send scouts to the Yankee complex in the Dominican Republic this weekend to watch SS Erisbel Arruebarruena, who recently defected from Cuba (Martino).
“He’s a very good defensive player. His glove is very close to the big leagues. The bat, you kind of think he’s one of those guys who’ll bat down in the order,” A scout recently told Jonathan Mayo of MLB.com. “He’ll be a quality defensive shortstop in the Major Leagues, but you wonder if he’s going to hit.”

So apparently the market for Stephen Drew has all but died out, I think Boras played this hand completely wrong.

There are rumblings that Duda could still get time in the outfield? We already have 4 outfielders so I really hope that doesn't happen.

I tink some dominoes still need to fall in order to get trade talks going again for Murph/Ike. I'd be ok heading into the season with them, but I think the hot stove could get interesting again once Tanaka signs on somewhere.

Played it all wrong, he's eventually going to settle for a 1-year deal somewhere, with an option for a 2nd.

Duda has to go, he sucks.

I think I'm going to get opening day tiks for my son & I .

Havent done in years.

Nice!! Enjoy that, I haven't been to one ever.

Just saw this interesting blurb...

NEW YORK (1/21/14) -- New Seattle Mariners hitting coach Howard Johnson watched Zack Wheeler and Rafael Montero from the opposing dugout while coaching in Triple-A last season. But the Mets prospect who impressed him most at Triple-A Las Vegas last season?

Jacob deGrom, a 6-foot-4 right-hander and ninth-round pick in 2010 out of Stetson University, who went 4-2 with a 4.52 ERA in 14 starts for the 51s. DeGrom had started the season at Class A St. Lucie, then made 10 starts with Double-A Binghamton before the rapid ascent to Las Vegas.

Although deGrom did not receive a September call-up, he was added to the 40-man roster this offseason and officially will be part of the fifth-starter competition along with John Lannan, Jenrry Mejia and Montero.

DeGrom, who was a shortstop early in his college career before being converted to pitcher, possesses a fastball that sits at 91-94 mph. The sinker is complemented by a slider and a changeup. (Read a full feature on him from July here.)

"I saw deGrom. I like him a lot," HoJo said. "As a matter of fact, at David [Wright]'s wedding, I mentioned deGrom to the front office. He pitched one game against us, and he pitched very well. And the things I saw, I liked. He was the guy that I remember, for sure. And we saw them all -- Wheeler, and I've seen [Jack] Leathersich and some of the other guys. But he was pretty good."

After being let go by the Mets as a major league hitting coach and deciding not to accept a minor-league role with the club, HoJo sat out two years. He then accepted the Triple-A Tacoma hitting coach role last season with the Mariners and now has been elevated to their big-league staff.

There is a definite Mets accent to the coaching staff in Seattle. HoJo is joined by John Stearns as third-base coach, Rick Waits as pitching coach, Chris Woodward as infield coach and Jason Phillips as bullpen catcher.

I believe he's a top 10 prospect for the Mets. It's amazing how deep the Mets are (in theory) with pitching.

The Mets and Lucas Duda have agreed to a one-year deal worth $1.6375 million, avoiding arbitration (Sherman).

Should have just let him go, useless.

I see it as motivation for Ike to step the hell up like he's capable of doing or else......
.....but also as a decent contact hitter off the bench.

Ehhh, he's pretty bad. He's just like Ike, either homers or strikesouts. At least Ike was having some patience at the plate later on. Was drawing a lot of walks and staying away from pitches in the dirt. Duda, does not.

I don't mind bringing Duda back. To be perfectly honest I'd rather a guy like Duda ride the bench, play every couple of days and pinch hit than a guy like Flores. I'd prefer Flores play everyday until a spot opens up on the roster so if he starts in AAA that might be for the best.

Matt Harvey‘s goal is to pitch for the Mets this September, despite being months away from throwing a baseball.
Harvey had Tommy John surgery in October. The Mets have repeatedly said they do not expect him to pitch in 2014.
“When you see stories of guys coming back in 10 months, I’m going to think, ‘Hey, I can come back in nine,” he said Thursday while being honored as the New England Player of the Year by the Boston chapter of the BBWAA (MLB.com, Jan. 23). “Obviously, I don’t make those decisions. I can only prepare to the best of my ability and make sure I’m in good strength and flexibility, and when they do let me go, I’m good to go.”
Harvey told reporters he has yet to have any sort of setback, and, ”I’m itching to get back out and pick up a baseball again.”

I rather he not rush back.
