Of the 2 big name OFs that we've been linked to who would you prefer to sign, Granderson or Cruz? Cruz getting popped for PEDs concerns me a bit, but so does Granderson's Houdini act in the playoffs. I think I'd prefer Granderson.

So we start the offseason by wasting 7.5 on Chris Young..... maybe the Wilpons just enjoy being in last place.

Hey c'mon with that pessimistic attitude. He's a placeholder, buys us 1 year and is an upgrade over Lagares offensively, not bad defensively. If he sucks so what he's gone after this season. Buys Nimmo another year in the minors.

Cruz, we need a legit power bat to protect Wright in the lineup, only fitting Cruz comes back to where he first starter but never played for us.

Alright we need to focus on getting Drew here now. I can not go another season of watching Tejada out there. I understand we will forfeit our secound round pick for Drew but think we should. Unless we can swing a deal with A's for Cespedes and Lowrie.

Fuggetabout Peralta....he went to the Cards......and McCann went to the Yanks.
I would endorse a Nelson Cruz deal, and even one for Stephen Drew, but I'm not gonna hold my breath.

Ftr.....I don't care for the Chris Young signing.....smh/lol at Sandy.
Outfielder Chris Young agrees to deal with New York Mets - ESPN New York

We still need Starting Pitching and BP help.

Want a new shortstop? Expect to pay up

In response to my post about trade options for shortstop, I learned from league insiders that asking prices are sky high for the players I mentioned, which is why the Cardinals abandoned ship and went the free-agent route.
stephen-drew-2.jpg
“We certainly explored the trade market at many levels, trying to see what we could do there,” Cardinals GM John Mozeliak said, when announcing his deal with Jhonny Peralta. “But the acquisition costs seemed very preventative for us to move forward with that.”
Mozeliak has an arsenal of affordable, impressive, young big-league talent, and he eventually turned away from talks with the Rockies about Troy Tulowitzki and Baltimore about J.J. Hardy. This doesn’t mean Sandy Alderson will do the same, but it’s a glimpse into the asking prices and how opposing GMs may be viewing the overall market.
“Offense is at an all-time premium, and shortstop is always a premium position, so you do the math,” one person familiar with the market told me.

Even to add more to our dumb luck, I fully expect Ike to get traded....and of course then he'll hit .290, w/ 40 HR, and have 100 + rbi....and all we'll get in return is another noodle armed mediocre pitcher that spends the majority of his time on the DL..

It's a possibility, but Ike's inability to even make contact was frightening last year. I don't know how much of it was in his head or how much of it was other team's figuring out how to pitch to him. He was miserable and I'm not sure he'd be able to turn that around with the New York media bearing down on him. In a smaller market he might have a chance.

Of course we're not interested in Hughes who wants a two-year deal. Wont hand out long-term deals, wont hand out two-year deals, what the fuck will this team do then? Pathetic.

5:14 pm: Hughes is likely to get a two-year contract, but the Mets aren’t interested in such a deal (King).

Free-agent starting pitcher Bronson Arroyo says he’ll consider signing with the Mets, who are interested, but so far there are no reports indicating they have not contacted him.
Nov. 29: The Mets “are in” on Arroyo ([ame="http://twitter.com/ChrisCotillo/status/406525856287178752"]Cotillo[/ame]).

The Mets are looking more at second and third-tier free agents (Olney).
Nov. 22: The collective buzz in baseball is that the Mets want to make moves, but are apprehensive and a tad gun-shy and trying to get as many players for as little money as possible, on short-term deals, while searching to trade for an impact hitter ([ame="[MEDIA=twitter]403948786042822656[/MEDIA]"]Cerrone[/ame]).

LOL typical.

I'd prefer to trade for an impact player and sign serviceable role players. The free agent market is totally out of whack, the bedt UFAs sre all older. 2015 should be our target year so no sense in going all in on an aging player when our legit chance is a season away.

I agree, I really hope we can pull off a deal to land Cespedes and Lowrie from Oakland. Oakland doesn't want to pay Cespedes the money he's owed and is shopping him around.

This is also news on Arroyo.

1:15 PM: The Mets are aggressively pursuing Arroyo, although the two sides aren’t close to a deal. Sandy Alderson intends to meet face-to-face with Arroyo soon. (Cotillo).

I totally endorse signing Hart, Arroyo, Cespedes and Lowrie in a NY minute.....but then cold reality slaps me in the face just to remind me I'm a Mets' fan, and that the owner's nickname is Freddie Coupon.....:L
