Damn man, i love talking about this offseason stuff but thats when we werent very good. Now that we were so close to the SB and with it coming up soon, it just makes me sick knowing how close we really were.

Yep, that's why I jokingly chastised/lamented that this thread was made. It should have been made after we have coped and mourned our loss.

I mostly agree. Getting Rogers an Goldson signed shoul be the priority. I also would push for Grant, Constanzo, Ginn, amd Brooks depending on price. As for free agency target Dwayne Bowe, Colston or Vincent Jackson. Draft we need WR, OG, LB/DL depth, a Corner, and maybe a running back.

Rachel needs to go. He is an ok run blocker....and HORRIBLE in pass protection. We need to give NaVorro Bowman and extension this offseason. I have to admit, I was surprised how well he played. Many times, I think he outplayed Willis.

I would also give an extension to Andy Lee. This kicking duo may be the best in 49er history.

Sopoaga needs an extension as well. And resigning Rogers and Alex Smith look to be very promising if not locks.

But the #1 re-sign in my opinion is Goldson. He played well...and there is a huge drop off in whats left to choose from in FA.

FA signings and Draft focus should be O-Line depth, D-Line depth, OLB, and WR (2). A top 10 WR would change the offense dramatically. I don't think other teams really worry about the deep threat capability of this team. Add a Vicent Jackson or Colston to this roster, and this offense could be leathal!

Per RotoWorld

Michael Crabtree - WR - 49ers The Sacramento Bee expects the 49ers to target a wide receiver to complement Michael Crabtree this offseason.
Beat writer Matt Barrows suggests Dwayne Bowe, Marques Colston, and Vincent Jackson as possible free agent targets, but concedes that the more likely avenue to finding a complementary wideout is in the draft. The 49ers finished 29th in passing offense in 2011, managing just 183 passing yards per game.

Larry Grant - LB - 49ers Eric D. Williams of the Tacoma News Tribune suggested free agent ILB Larry Grant as a potential offseason target for the Seahawks.
The Seahawks lack quality depth behind David Hawthorne, Leroy Hill, and K.J. Wright, and both Hill and Hawthorne are free agents. Grant, a seventh-round pick by the 49ers in 2008, spent his first three seasons as a reserve linebacker in St. Louis. He rejoined San Francisco this season on a one-year deal.

Chris Culliver - DB - 49ers The 49ers believe Chris Culliver will be ready to take over as a starter in 2012.
Culliver essentially emerged as a starter during his rookie year, playing left corner in all nickel packages down the stretch. Beat writer Matt Maiocco notes that RCB Tarell Brown played well in his first full season as a starter, and fourth corner Tramaine Brock will return. Those factors could lead to the 49ers to low-ball free agent Carlos Rogers. Eight-year vet Shawntae Spencer, who is scheduled to make $3.2 million in 2012, is not expected to return

Reggie Smith - DB - 49ers The 49ers reportedly reached an "understanding" after the season that free agent S Reggie Smith would be allowed to test the market in 2012.
The Niners are expected to either franchise tag FS Dashon Goldson or lock him up long term, which would have left Smith as a third safety for another year behind Goldson and SS Donte Whitner. The 75th overall pick in the 2008 draft, Smith was a college cornerback. He held his own in seven starts two seasons ago, and should draw some interest as a starter in free agency

Shawntae Spencer - DB - 49ers Updating a previous item, the 49ers are expected to release CB Shawntae Spencer this offseason.
We initially speculated that the Niners might dangle Spencer on the trade market, but they're expected to cut ties with an unhappy player due $3.2 million. Current Texans DBs coach Vance Joseph tutored Spencer from 2005 until 2010, the last of which was Spencer's career year. After he's released, Spencer could become a candidate to replace free agent Jason Allen in Houston.

Chilo Rachal - G - 49ers The 49ers are not expected to re-sign free agent OG Chilo Rachal for 2012.
After a standout 2010 season, Rachal lost his starting job early under first-year coach Jim Harbaugh and watched Adam Snyder play right guard the rest of the way. Still only 26 and the former 39th pick in the draft, Rachal may draw interest from the linemen-needy Redskins. Rachal should come cheap, and Washington OL coach Chris Foerster was Rachal's position coach in 2009-2010.

It seems like most people, you included imac, are ONLY thinking about next year. I'm thinking about the next 5 years.

every team should have a 5 year "plan", no argument here. a five year plan isn't stagnant, its updated to the status of your current team.

our 5 year plan should now be making a push for a SB win. if we BARELY made the play-offs and were bounced in the Wildcard, i MIGHT buy where you're going? but the consistency of this SEASON, and getting that close to the SB, tells me this team is now a legit play-off team.

our window is opening NOW, so the 5 year plan acts accordingly. we're no longer in rebuild mode.

guess you'll ALWAYS want to trade vet players pre-maturely, even if we had won the SB.

Getting back to Mario Williams and I'm hoping Sick looks at this.
The beat fellas are already hinting at Rogers leaving and being replaced by Culliver. So I'll play along. If Rogers walks and we use Brooks money on an upgrade at OLB that leaves us with $19,932,000 of cap space left over if you use the existing salary amounts for Alex and Goldson that I mentioned earlier. 6 players would need to be signed to get to 53. Any chance we fit WRs (Burress and Meachem) and Mario into that amount??? :)

don't see why we'd chase Mario Williams? does he really fit our scheme better than Brooks?

cause doesn't he cost a LOT more?

He played 34 OLB this season until he got hurt. 5 games 5 sacks and 1 FF. So yes he'd be a major upgrade. Plus he's only 26 and he could eventually replace Justin Smith at 34 end. Minus Rogers and Brooks, add Mario/Burress/Meachem and I'm thinking we are in the big game.

ok, IF he's a major upgrade fine.

Burress and Meachem? if Meachem is prolific in getting open short/medium, fine. IMO Burress isn't the guy we should pursue, we should try the others like VJ, Bowe, Colston, etc.

Meachem would be our deep threat with good hands guy and he's a good blocker in the run game. Burress would be our redzone target. They both come at a nice price so they fit in the budget. I'll take Super Mario and those two over blowing the load on a Colston/VJax/Bowe with Brooks.

but it sounds like you're describing two "specialist"? one a deep threat, the other for the red zone? whereas one of these other guys can do both. if we can't sign one of the top guys, then we can look at options like this, but we should try first.
