Nole deserved a break after that HELLISH draw in Paris; Rafa in the quarters and Murray in the semis! He's the #1 player in the world; doesn't he deserve a break? I know Nadal got his pigeons from Spain in his half of the draw again and again! lol! :rolleyes2: :noidea:
couldn't ask for a whole lot better with a sf opponent

owned gasquet, 11-1

Mugaruzza and Agga havin a battle. This is one of those unbalance semis I talked about as Serena has to play Maria.

Tennis needs to stick to making brackets by seeds not coin flips.

Djokovic - Cilic:

Cilic couldn't get into the match. Overhit a lot of balls wide.

Didn't look comfortable.

He'll probably do better next time. Just think he played better last year, and today wasn't his day.

Wawrinka-Gasquet:

Great match.

Gasquet broke in the 5th to take a 5-3 lead.

When Gasquet was serving @ 5-4, Wawrinka broke back. It was a 30-30 game too.

At 10-9, Wawrinka was down 0-40, and saved 2 match points. He'd still lose 11-9.

Disappointed Wawrinka couldn't make it through, as I don't think Gasquet-Djokovic will be competitive. Wawrinka-Djokovic, based on all of the recent history, would have been.

I'm now only looking forward to FED vs. Murray. Maybe I'll be surprised and Gasquet will make it a good one.

gasquet did it. good fight from wawrinka on his worst surface.

semis are set:

(2) Federer vs. (3) Murray
(1) Djokovic vs. (21) Gasquet

gasquet was a true prodigy...has always had phenomenal talent, but that big looping windup on the forehand combined with extreme nervousness in tight situations has kept him from the success everybody predicted for him as a kid.

i'm happy for him.

It seemed even more loopy than usual yesterday, lol.

I'll catch up on the rest of this thread later tonight, as I'll watch the SFs then.

This was the only SF I wanted to see, because of how uncompetitive Serena vs. Maria have been over the years.

Serena wins for the SEVENTEENTH time in a row over Maria Screamapova.

The final is set:

Serena vs. Muguruza

Muguruza is probably going to win at least 1 major in her career. We'll see if she has the game to do it on Saturday.

Beating the little girlie (no matter how crafty they say she is) is not the same as going up against Serena.

Straight sets I think. And no way she breaks Serena if Serena continues to serve like she is.

First time on the biggest stage in the sport playing against 1 of the best of all time. No pressure though, LOL.
I think it will be a good experienc for her, but I would not get my hopes too high for this one.

I agree though she is good enough to pull down a major in her career, maybe more than just 1 or 2.

not sure where you heard that muguruza is some sort of "crafty" player.

she hits hard. her forehand can go off, but she has some of the biggest weapons off the ground in the WTA.

she'll win a major. just a matter of when. i agree that there's no reason for serena to even lose a set if she serves well.

Ya'll should enhance your reading skills...

I never said that. I said Muruguza beat a little girlie player (that everybody says is so crafty) and THAT cannot be compared to going up against Serena.

And I never said she wouldn't win a major either. But she'll probably have to wait for Serena to pack it in.

Glad that you're smart enough to understand that Mugurza is one of the biggest hitters off the ground.

Sorry for not being able to figure it out from you saying this:

Someday, I'll be smart enough to understand your insightful posts.

Geez Louise, plain English and I figured a sage such as yourself would realize that the Spaniard had just beaten that small, crafty Pole. Or at least everybody praises her game craft. But me.

And that could never compare to Serena at full song.

I could give a monkey's about insight. I'm not trying to educate anybody. Least of all you.

I'm just ribbing you a little.

I want Serena to win, mostly because I want to see a calendar slam, and for her to break Steffi's record.

I think Muguruza has the ability to beat just about anybody outside of Serena, and am thankful that there are some good players on the horizon after Serena retires.

On a lighter note, check out this video.

The section with Schiavone vs. Kuznetsova is hilarious.

Understood and serve was returned...

I think she and Keys will have some good ones down the road. Big hitters both. Maybe the Brit who pushed Serena as well.

But until the queen is dead.....

I like it.

I'd send that to my daughter but she's probably already seen it.

I'm going to try a first for me tomorrow.

Will avoid ESPN all day tomorrow at work and won't come on the tennis board here tomorrow until late in the evening as I'm going to DVR both SF tomorrow and will watch them when I get in tomorrow night

Federer -Murray match off to a great start. They are on serve 6-5. This is going to be good.
