Why would we not have brought Moreland back for the one year $5.5 mil he got?

Then we move Profar to 2nd, and Odor to LF. And this team has a pretty darn good looking defensive IMO.
A gold glove for one year at that price? Believe so, yes. We went to the WS twice with him.

Has anyone figured out what our plan is? Every year i can see JD's plan unfolding as the off-season progresses but this time i am at a loss to see what our plan is other than not to spend

Best guess he is trying to get the rotation in order.

well we have Hamels, Darvish, Perez & Cashner with plenty of inhouse choices to pick from for the 5th starter(not that i like any of them) so what needs to be done?

Something better than Cashner and in house choices. Looking at Ross w/SD

Ross is coming off surgery and was non-tendered by SD so not sure if he is a solution or a festering problem. Plus he is looking for 10 to 11M a season and supposedly we have 0 dollars to spend

We have $$. Just got Gomez. Not much needed unless the rotation is solid. Cole and Yu won't get get it done alone. Perez is more a#4 than a #3. Not much hope left in Lewis so JD has to do something and it's early so give him time.

If you believe we have zero dollars to spend I have a bridge I'd like to sell you.

okay with the time it just seems there have been good fits that have been allowed to go other places and it always seems that money is the more important factor. Moreland said he would give the Rangers a chance to match any offer and he signed with Boston for a cut-rate value that i thought the Rangers would have matched without hesitation. If they passed on that then why would they spend more for a less defensive-minded 1st baseman?

then how do we get better defensively as some are suggesting?

We know for a fact he can't play 2nd base, so it's worth a look to see what he can/can't do with a position change.

and he rankings 10th among 2nd basemen in 2016 and he is only 21 and i think he will only get better

It will depend on the medicals JD sees and the contract Ross is willing to take. Doubt he gets 8 figures from anyone coming off surgery, but when he's right, he can pitch

They're not spending more that I know of. Rhua and Profar will especially if we don't get reliable pitching. Don't count on much if pitching doesn't develop.

I thought we were all on the same page that Moreland was gone full stop.
