Evan thinks we would be more likely to trade for Billy Hamilton than McCutchen.

Don't know if I would give someone who will be 34 in January 5 years and 115 million.

I am glad rosters are remaining at 25 so we don't have to endure about 200 or so more pitching changes in 2017 than we did in the past.

I was hoping they might limit September callups to that end

I don't mind it one month of the season. It gives clubs a chance to look at younger players.

Heyman: Mike Napoli's Former Teams All Interested In Reunion

Mike Napoli is coming off one of the finer seasons of his career, and as a result, the free agent first baseman is drawing interest from several teams. Indications are that the three most serious in their pursuits of the 35-year-old slugger are all former teams of Napoli’s — the Boston Red Sox, Cleveland Indians, and Texas Rangers. Both the New York Yankees and Houston Astros remain longer-shot possibilities for him as well.

Hopefully the winter meetings will be fun this year.

Has anyone done the research and math to see how many players we have coming back next year and at what price?

8:37pm: Actually, all teams will stand to sacrifice draft picks if they sign players who declined qualifying offers, Stark tweets, but at varying levels. Organizations that are over the luxury tax line will punt a second and a fifth-round choice, while those who are under the threshold would stand to sacrifice a third-rounder.

These changes will not apply until the following offseason, Morosi notes on Twitter.

Free-agent first baseman/DH Mike Napoli might be a fit for the Texas Rangers.

rumorcentral_16x9_203x114.png
According to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, the Rangers are expected to move on from their own free-agent first baseman, Mitch Moreland, leaving a potential spot open that Napoli, who played for Texas from 2011-12 and again in 2015, could fill.

Napoli, 35, went all the way to the World Series with the Cleveland Indians this year, hitting .239 with a career-high 34 home runs and 101 RBIs.

The Indians didn't extend Napoli a qualifying offer but expressed to him that they'd like to bring him back. However, the two sides might not be on the same page in terms of contract length. Napoli said he has enjoyed his time in Cleveland and wouldn't be opposed to staying.

The Boston Red Sox are also interested in Napoli, according to Heyman. The slugger played for Boston from 2013-15.

The Houston Astros and New York Yankees are long-shot landing spots for Napoli, Heyman also notes. Meanwhile, the Seattle Mariners' interest in Napoli has appeared to fade.

Okay, I went through the exercise of trying to add up what we have dedicated to spend so far.

I included Lucroy, Chirinos
Rua, Profar, Odor, Elvis, Beltre
Choo, Mazara, DeShields
Darvish, Hamels, Perez, Griffin, Cashner
Dyson, Bush, Kela, Barnette, Jeffress, Diekman, and Claudio.

I also included the $1.5 milliion we owe Holland and half of what we owe Prince assuming that half will be paid by insurance. That amounted to $9 million for Prince and it actually may be a little more than that. We also owe Hamilton $2 million.

That leaves us needing to fill 3 positions. If we fill those position with our own young players or scrubbs it might total somewhere between $1.5 and $3 million.

That gives us a grand total of $133 million. There appears to be money to spend.
