Chi Chi and Gallo... I have this sinking feeling the Rangers are going to regret not striking while the iron was hot on those two.
It is a difficult task to determine ahead of time if you have a Chi Chi or a Hendricks on your hands.

And this is exactly why you hang onto young pitching as long as you possible can. Don't give up on a guy when he's struggling at 23 @ AA.

not really "giving up" on them... the Rangers didn't give up on Hendricks, they traded him to try and bolster their major league rotation at the time.

I wasn't necessarily meaning just cutting them lose. We seem to let an awful lot of arms go, regardless of situation when the harsh reality is, we need to grow our own and frankly, this just isn't happening enough.

Wasn't that a mantra we once had?

Believe it or not, Buck just reminded us about David Freese HR in 2011 WS.
The man is obsessed.

LOOK: Yes, of course, there was a Bautista-Odor Halloween costume and it was great
The punch from earlier this season lives on in Halloween glory

You will of course recall Rougned Odor's righteous pole-axing of Jose Bautista from earlier this season ...

Needless to say, that straight right to the chops caught the attention of Rangers and Blue Jays fans, in addition to the vast remainder of us. The timeless formula, of course, is that cultural prominence yields Halloween costume. Given that, consider the following to be beautifully inevitable ...

Excelsior! All available props go out to the two young lads who brandished this tandem costume! Also, consider it a nice touch to increase the width of Odor's gold chain to Run-DMC levels. Yes, this undersells the majesty of Bautista's "forest primeval" beard, but ours is not a perfect world.

Remember, people: Violence should never be celebrated except on those occasions when it should obviously be celebrated.

There probably should be a distinction made between the Rangers giving up on a player and fans giving up on a player. I don't think the Rangers gave up on players they traded for talent such as Lee or Hamels. They just realized they would have to give up a lot to get a lot. With Hendricks I think they did give up on him. Not so much because of his results because his results were spectacular while here. They gave up on him as a pitcher being able to get big league hitters out with his stuff. If speculation is true it appears they have given up on Holland. They gave up on Feliz, Olt, Benoit, Hunter, O'Day, Herrera, Hendricks, Main, Edwards, Wieland, and several others. Some rightly so and some wrongly so. That meaning giving up on their potential to be very successful in the big leagues in the future.

The fans on the other hand give up on many others and mostly wrongly so. Not necessarily wrong based on how the player eventually turns out, but wrong based on how early the player is given up on. Sometimes though us fans give up on a player long before the Rangers do and we are right to do so. See Michael Kirkman for an example.

The problem with us having that mantra is that we don't draft and develop well enough. We also leave ourselves needing to make major trades in the regular season which erodes away the talent we do have in the system. There may also be a problem with a philosophy that thinks less of guys like Hendricks than they do guys who can throw harder, but who get less results.
