Rumors circulating that connect the Mariners to John Jay. I wouldn't hate the idea although I don't think he provides as much value as a healthy Dyson. However Dyson is what 34 so having him healthy may not be realistic. Regardless though Jay shouldn't cost a ton and he's better offensively but worse in the field.
Going cheap at 1B and potentially in the OF means they best spend on pitching then.
Baseball America's Bob Dutton reports that Kyle Lewis is still dealing with lingering issues in his right knee.
Lewis was forced to leave the AFL at the end of October because of soreness in his knee, and while there wasn't any structural damage, it sounds like this could be a chronic issue. The 2016 first-round pick has more talent than any prospect in the Seattle system, but the question is now if he'll ever be able to truly recover from the horrific ACL tear that has seen him miss all but 49 games in his two years as a professional. There's just as much risk in Lewis's profile as there is reward at this point.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!Happy thanksgiving everyone.
Seems as if the Jon Jay thing is pretty serious. I'm unsure how I feel about it. He has a good BA and OBP, but literally offers absolutely nothing other than that. Zero power, not a threat on the base paths and grades as below average defensively the past two years. I'd rather have Dyson, personally.
The Ohtani thing is good news. Seems the Mariners are all in on landing him.
This is also good news in the fact that even if we don't land him, JD does seem to realize that the Mariners need another top tier starting pitcher.

Being the Mariners pessimist, I view this as meaning we will take a potential superstar if we can get him dirt cheap. They will never find a talent like his for $3M a year. I hope they finally prove me wrong on this.
This is how it usually goes for Seattle it seems. That is why I am not confident we land Ohtani. If we don't get him we need to get Lynn or Cobb. I am a big fan of landing either of these guys. I would have some interest in a few other guys as quality back end starters too, guys like Cashner, Jhoulys Chacin or Jaime Garcia. It all depends if the Mariners have confidence in Miranda, Moore and Erasmo. Erasmo was easily the better pitcher of the 3.Being the Mariners pessimist, I view this as meaning we will take a potential superstar if we can get him dirt cheap. Isn't there the possibility that he is offered an extension immediately after he accepts the offer? I sort of wonder if it is a tongue in cheek thing that would be the case.
Didn't know he was only pitching once every 7. Is that kind of thing common in Japan? No matter who Ohtani ends up playing for its going to be an interesting experiment.I say both even with him. I am not sure if all fans know, but from what I read Ohtani only pitched once a week usually on Sunday's. He isn't use to a 5 man rotation so M's might have to carry a 6th starter which is fine with me if we get strong starters.
Paxton
Leake
Lynn
Cobb
Felix/Ohtani rotation.
Ramirez bullpen/extra starter when Paxton goes down.
JD said he wanted to get to a staff by committee so here you go.

Interesting, I did not know that, never really thought about it either. I know they play less games over roughly the same time period so I guess it makes sense. Not sure if that is common, but tend to thank so. They said it on MLB Network the other day. Maybe that is why they have less injuries...until they come to Seattle.
