lineups don't matter

the team isn't contending until dipoto's attempt at a rebuild is complete

i'm onboard to see how he goes about it, but i feel like i've gotten pretty good at figuring out if our GM has no clue what they're doing since we're kind of specialists at it now

Report: Corbin visiting Phillies on Tuesday...yeah yeah yeah sign there

Jim Salisbury of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports that Patrick Corbin is visiting with the Phillies on Tuesday.

According to Salisbury, Corbin is high on the team's wish list after posting a 3.15 ERA and 246/48 K/BB ratio across 200 innings this past season with Arizona. We know that the Phillies have plenty of cash to spend this offseason and they might end up adding a couple of major pieces in order to make a push for 2019. Previous speculation connected Corbin to the Yankees, but the dynamic might have changed after last week's James Paxton deal.

I just read this:

If 2021 is the Mariners’ new goal, what does that roster look like?

I was thinking about it and looking at the organizational strengths and weaknesses of the franchise, and one position that Mariners are quite deep at is OF. Mallex Smith and Mitch Haniger will have two positions locked down for the foreseeable future, then we have Ben Gamel at the major league level.

Four of our top 8 prospects currently are outfielders. And outside of the top 8, you have other intriguing - albeit less heralded - prospects in recently acquired outfielders Jake Fraley and Dom Thompson-Williams. I don't know how common prospect-for-prospect trades are, but I wouldn't be opposed to trying to use that depth to improve other areas in the organization (specifically starting pitching) that could use an upgrade.

Hell, maybe it should've been something the Mariners should have considered when trading Paxton. Perhaps if the Mariners had thrown in a guy like Braden Bishop, we could've convinced the Astros to part with Forrest Whitley.

yeah..sinse they got the two extra outfield guys there of in

the whole minors looks good..the reason they needed them was

jimenez and liberato where not ready for AA..prospect for prospect is not all that commen but it does happen

if prospects are needed they usually come in trades we see at the mlb lvl...or minor league free agents
or draft or international signings

These latest rumors of a Robinson Cano for Jay Bruce trade sound a whole like the Mariners getting fucked.

Maybe Dr Lorena Hotsy-Totsy Martin was on to something. With Cruz gone and Cano and Segura being openly shopped, it would seem that Dipoto is hellbent on breaking up the Latino leadership on this team.

So incredibly dumb. The Cano contract is an albatross yes but let’s not pretend this is a Pujols situation. Cano can still produce at a somewhat decent level for probably 2-3 more years. No reason to give him away with Diaz. You don’t have to unload him now and you can afford him. Try and actually pretend you hold the cards for once instead of trying to make a deal before your pants catch fire. Fucking Dipshito

Too many health risks for a guy who will most likely get a $100+ million contract. No thanks. The fat cats can have him. They can have Eovaldi too. Honestly, I rather get another guy like Mike Leake. He won't dazzle you with talent but he's a lock to take the ball every fifth day. You give Leake a five-year deal and you will get 150-160 starts. You give Eovaldi or Corbin a five-year deal and you will be lucky to get 100 starts.

If they are willing to pay the kind of money to deal Cano then I’d rather them put that money towards paying Seager to go to another team.

Issue is despite the money I think Seagar is still harder to trade. He has been straight up awful for 2 years now. Cano at least has shown he can still produce

Seager to St Louis makes some sense.

Philly is the other spot. Especially if you take Santana to DH.

in the phili deal...they are desperate to off load santana(for a more productive player)...and would look at cano as a 2B/1B type
even cano would be a defensive upgrade...to what they have now...so the prospect would be coming the mariners way
in this one..and i would not eat more than 5 mil for two years==10 mil..(.enough to give to charity...for cano..lol)
From what I read, the Phillies want to unload Santana because they want to put Rhys Hoskins at first base. Hoskins was supposedly the worst defensive outfielder in the NL last year. So Cano would not be playing first base for the Phils. He'd play second base where the Phillies already have Cesar Hernandez firmly embedded. So they would need to move Hernandez before they trade for Cano and they can't trade him to us because that would be pretty counter-productive. The whole reason for trading Cano (along with dumping his guaranteed contract) would be to allow Gordon to play second...

Seager, like so many left-handed hitters in today's game, has been unable to adjust to the shift. He is unwilling to sacrifice power for a higher BA (which is basically what it takes to beat the shift). That's what's killed his BA/OPS the last two years. But he is still cranking out as many extra-base hits as he always has. If he went to a team that had a short porch in left field, he could probably hit 30-35 homers a year for the remainder of his contract. But if he stays here, we are going to see more of what we saw last year: 22-28 homers, 75-90 RBI, .225ish BA.

True, but getting nothing back is still a win. Why would Seattle pay Cano to play against them? I’m fine with dealing Cano but it just seems ass backwards, I’d rather pay to play against Seager than Cano unless they finally decide to make Seager the 7 or 8 hole hitter. Dude isn’t totally a bum but he is absolutely terrible for being a number 5 hitter.

All of the rumors regarding Cano sound so absolutely absurd that I can't believe any of them.

I'm hoping that Seager rebounds in 2019 after a poor 2018. If he produces like he does in 2017, a team would take him and his contract I believe.

I'd imagine the Mariners would try to move Dee Gordon as well if they're really trying to shoot for 2021.

If Jerry can move Cano and Gordon in the same off season then I think we should all give Jerry a pass. Can’t see a chance in hell the team can deal those two without taking crap contracts back. Just hope he can find a sucker like Jeter did to make a trade with.

If we use Diaz as bait to unload Cano as ive been hearing in rumors, ill be pissed.

mind you I want Diaz to be traded because if you are truly committed to rebuild you dont need a closer.

but you dont use someone with as much value as Diaz has to unload Cano.
