It's starting to feel like it is going to happen. May not be the same names that are being mentioned in media reports, but seems like its a go. Robby really fucked up when he got popped. Prior to that, I think the Mariners were hoping he'd retire here and wear a Mariner hat in the HOF.

Oh definitely.

Now Cano will be one of the best players to never make the HoF because of his suspension unless the voters change their perspective on PEDs.

For all the talk about how bad Cano's contract is, people look past the fact that he's still a good player. Graded above average defensively and his offensive numbers were strong as well. Hell who knows, maybe he could end up having an Adrian Beltre-like career and plays strong throughout his contract.

I think this is important to remember as well. Yes the PED thing happened but I dont see him being the type of guy to fall off a cliff.

This far from a Pujols situation where its literally just dead weight eating money

I just think attaching Diaz to Cano is a huge mistake. No way they get maximum value for him.

Diaz should be traded in a Chapman like deal. But this is the Mariners and that was the Yankees. No need to explain the difference

27 years old shortly after opening day 2019. Kinda long in the tooth for a prospect. If they get him, the logjam at second base will remain unless they find a taker for Gordon. I like his stats though and his audition went well last year.

No it's being reported that the Mets may also be including starting second baseman Jeff McNeil who is 26yrs old and hit over .300 last year. I have no clue who this guy is because I pay zero attention to the Mets, but the Mets fans are losing their shit on social media. Apparently if we land the given prospects with this kid it would be highway robbery for the M's.

Now that Im ok with :thumb:

Or Segura.

Don't forget the Mariners had apparently approached Segura and Mike Leake about waiving their no-trade clause.

Hit really well across the minors. Looks like he lost most of two seasons due to injury which likely stunted his development a bit.

Segura just came to mind reading that response as well.

Maybe it's a double salary dump sending Robbie-Diaz-Segura for the listed prospects and McNeil. I'm starting to feel by the way people have responded to those guys in return and what I've read on this Kelenic kid we may have a solid deal in place. Id rather keep Dee than Segura if one has to go, Segura quit on his team; no time for that.

If we got Kelenic and McNeill and didn't eat more than $40 million of Robby's contract, I might start feeling okay with this trade.

This is JeDi we're talking about here, I'm not gonna get my hopes up.

That being said, if there's any organization that may be willing to get ripped off more than Seattle it's the Mets.

I mean, they're STILL paying Bobby Bonilla for gods sake. Even the M's aren't that dumb.

Scouts don't usually like any prospects we get back so Kelenic may be the guy to get here.

You have to ship a guy like Diaz in a deal w/ Cano to make the club we're trading him to eat his contract... Plus, it's rare that a closer is dominant for a long period of time... In 3 years or so, Diaz may not be as dominant... It's rare for closers to have careers like M. Rivera... I'm ok w/ shipping off Diaz for the right prospects in return because we're not going to be competing for a postseason spot for another 3 years at least...

That's my point, Diaz could either net you a couple of top tier prospects or clear your books as a throw for a hearty contract such as Robbies. We aren't gonna compete anyways so who cares about the money, net the prospects and let Cano ride off into the sunset. That beings said, if the Mets do what it sounds like their doing we may get a haul.

If the M's were a big payroll team, I'd agree a little more.

Cano-type contracts are what we see from the Nats/Dodgers/etc, and that will never be the M's. Any rebuild requires a jettison of that kind of payroll.

Teams with competent GM's know that.

Dipoto will get played. That's a certainty.

I think that's what irks me about the situation. I get the need to shed payroll but selling low on one of your best assets to do that is foolish. But thats probably an ownerhsip thing too.

I have no doubt Dipoto will get played. He got played by Derek fucking Jeter's team last off season. His need to make moves quick and frantically will no doubt make this process go worse then it should. Other teams always seem to be holding the cards with him and he will blink at some point.

Arguably the most critical time this franchise has seen in a while and I'm terrified of the guy that's making the moves.

I was giving it a bit of thought, and I wouldn't be too opposed to taking on Jay Bruce and his contract instead of just directly sending money.

There's always the possibility that Jay Bruce could bounce back and the Mariners could get something for him around the 2019 deadline.
