True, but getting nothing back is still a win. Why would Seattle pay Cano to play against them? I’m fine with dealing Cano but it just seems ass backwards, I’d rather pay to play against Seager than Cano unless they finally decide to make Seager the 7 or 8 hole hitter. Dude isn’t totally a bum but he is absolutely terrible for being a number 5 hitter.

I mainly just think they are stuck with Seagar. The return you would get and the money you would have to eat I don’t think is worth it. Better just hoping he rebounds and builds up his value a little and trade him next summer or winter

If Jerry can move Cano and Gordon in the same off season then I think we should all give Jerry a pass. Can’t see a chance in hell the team can deal those two without taking crap contracts back. Just hope he can find a sucker like Jeter did to make a trade with.

Wasn’t sure whether to laugh at this or not but it’s the Mariners so you laugh

Oh god buckle up.

I was just about to post this.......I'm nervous :rolleyes2:

I'm on board for trading Diaz and equally in trading Robbie, but it's what DiPoto deems as a "haul" that makes this nerve racking. We better land a couple of top flight prospects otherwise this will be a major failure. Using Diaz as the throw in for a money dump IS and would be a major hit on an already depleted organization.

:hope:

I'm just worried that JeDi is going after highly touted prospect Tim Tebow :L

Here is a 'what if' for y'all to play around with. Unrealistic, but what the hell. Most bullshit on sports message boards is unrealistic.

What if the Mariners process of unloading payroll this winter is not really being done for the reasons Dipoto has stated. What if there is an ulterior plan. What if he is really planning on making a run at Bryce Harper. Or, given his previous relationship with the Angels, what if he is clearing payroll to make a run at Mike Trout in 2021.

I was thinking about that. It's probably unlikely, but hypothetically speaking, getting Cano, Paxton and Zunino off the books would give the Mariners enough to make such a move.

Damn it, 8. Stop scaring me. But, nah, they'd never bring a Bible thumper to a lib town like Seattle.

With the pitching the Mets have and weakened state of the Nationals roster, this trade would probably make the Mets serious contenders in the NL East.

Considering the prospects that Diaz alone could get back in a trade, I'd rather them trade him straight up somewhere for prospects.

Cano's contract is a pain in the ass, but I'd prefer to have prospects over more money to spend.

Hopefully this deal doesn't get done until after I'm done with work. Don't want to be fucking distracted all day with this shit.

Apparently Jarred Kelenic, Justin Dunn and David Peterson are being discussed.

Kelenic is a centerfielder who was drafted #6 overall in 2018. Rated the #60 overall prospect in baseball. Just skimming the scouting report it indicates he projects as a 5-tool player. Only 19 so a bit far away from the majors.

Justin Dunn is a 23 year old RHP who is rated #89 overall.

David Peterson was a 2017 first round (20) pick. Not rated in the top 100, but he's the Mets' 6th best prospect according to mlb.com. Looks to project as a #3 or #4 starter.

Of the three prospects MLBTR is saying would be coming to the Mariners, two of them suck. The only guy I like is Jarred Kelenic.

This is Dipoto. We'd only receive the two worst ones while committing to pay Robinson Cano's entire remaining contract.

For all the talk about how bad Cano's contract is, people look past the fact that he's still a good player. Graded above average defensively and his offensive numbers were strong as well. Hell who knows, maybe he could end up having an Adrian Beltre-like career and plays strong throughout his contract.

I would honestly be in favor of the Mariners eating as much money as possible if it brings back more prospects.

In a shitty farm system this gives us the opportunity to "buy" prospects to a certain extent.

It's starting to feel like it is going to happen. May not be the same names that are being mentioned in media reports, but seems like its a go. Robby really fucked up when he got popped. Prior to that, I think the Mariners were hoping he'd retire here and wear a Mariner hat in the HOF.

If we wait until the mid season trade deadline while Diaz continues to be lights out we would get an absolute haul for him, non of this one top prospect with a couple of throw ins. JeDi is about to mess this up, I can feel it.

Very true, in a perfect world. But the Mariners have never existed in a perfect world. If we trade him now, he'll be the closer in the 2019 All Star game. If we keep him, he'll develop a sore arm in Spring Training and be on the DL next July 31st.
