Interesting tidbit. Had no idea that Ibanez was so sought after as a coach.

Definitely one of my favorite Mariners players of all-time. Partially because the only ball I've ever got from a game was thrown to me by him.

He is the definition of what generally makes a great manager. A guy who was never a star but worked hard enough to make himself an average to above average player. You never see guys who were stars succeed in any managerial or coaching positions.

I kind of think the reason "stars" are unsuccessful in a Manager role is because their egos get in the way of their attempts with managing skills and relating to team level efforts.

It is mostly relating to players. I think generally their managing isn’t terrible but relating to players who don’t have the natural ability and even with extra practice what they envision won’t be duplicated by 99% of players. It’s like when you try to help your kids with homework. It’s easier to help your kid who is bright and gets the subject rather than trying to explain to the other one how to get to the answer if they don’t understand it.

Problem was he was trying to throw home at the time!

Mariners Hire Paul Davis As Pitching Coach

By Jeff Todd | November 6, 2018 at 11:44am CDT

The Mariners announced today that they have hired Paul Davis as their new pitching coach. Previously, the club decided not to bring back Mel Stottlemyre in that role.

Davis had been with the Cardinals organization, most recently serving as their manager of pitching analytics. This will be his first experience on a MLB coaching staff. In the team’s press release, GM Jerry Dipoto praised Davis for his “exceptional understanding of the mechanics of pitching, as well as the balance to make evidence-based decisions.”

If the mariners can't land sanchez.eavaldi
Or morton or keuchel....then they may as well
Trade Paxton anyway....cuz basicly
Those are the guys who would fit

The number 2 spot for the mariners
All the others are 3 or 4 or 5 guys

Then if that is the case then....may as well
Trade..the rest of the expensive old
Players as well

My exact thought, but have given up on any reasoning with this team.
