if someone paid me to go away...or shut up....i may as well...ha ha

Gonzales filed a grievance with the Cardinals over an issue he had with when St. Louis demoted him. In return for dropping it, he gets a hefty raise -- considerably more than he would get as a player that wasn't eligible for arbitration -- but he remains under team-control for two extra years with the Mariners.

a deal is a deal.........it is the way it is

whatever the greavince was it is obvious...he was in the right

Point being as I see it is that he had a grievance with Cards but M's pay him an additional $1M over next 2 years. What do the Cards get punished with?

to me a move like ramirez..could only..mean..they want to clear money off the books.....so they can
sign a free agent..or the injury thing..cuz there are a lot of teams that can use ramirez................first take

it does not make sense........on the outside

if the mariners farm system was not so far down......i would not mind...but dont they ...need..to try to get something for him after they gave something up for him

even a prospect..or two would help the farm

Yusei Kikuchi - S - Player
A report out of Japan indicates that the Seibu Lions will hold a press conference on Monday to announce that they will post left-hander Yusei Kikuchi.

It's been widely expected that Kikuchi would be posted this winter and play in the major leagues in 2019, and now it appears closer to becoming a reality. Kikuchi, 27, put up a 3.08 ERA and 153/45 K/BB ratio over 163 2/3 innings in the Japan Pacific League this season. He's generally viewed by scouts as a potential

well....... at least the cubs know to get what they can....the mariners should go to the

cubs trading school

Jerry Crasnick reports that the Rangers will acquire ....Drew Smyly .........from the Cubs.

There's no word yet on what the Rangers will give up in return, but it doesn't figure to be much since it looks like the Cubs' main goal here was to shed salary. Smyly missed all of 2017 and was limited to just one rehab start this season following Tommy John surgery. The left-hander could be a nice roll of the dice by the Rangers if his stuff bounces back, although pitching in Texas and the American League isn't the greatest environment.

Good, he's not a starter and it made me made that they took him out the only role he was succesful in. Now theres more of a reason to get a real starter

The problem is that the mariners would’ve suffered the penalty.

So they basically settled it to protect themselves.

It was good business imo

Good gamble by a Texas team with zero pitching though.

yeah...they really need it...dr's are doing a better job of TJ these days so guys come back...and do well

should be automatic ...med comp..but should be automatic...contract extention for as long as they are out

if it takes 18-24 mounths..then the contract extention would be that long

cuz the mariners would have ..smily ......right now and .....phelps

which they had to pay.for......with other players...but never got the value..of there service
for more than a few games..with phelps..and not at all with smyly

makes you feel violated...and ripped off

you mean the contract should trigger with the injury?

interesting. We've seen Rosenthal and Holland both choose to sit the year out, which is a fascinating decision.

But I'm surprised Seattle didn't try to bring Smyly back as well.

The Smyly thing is one of the few mistakes I can give them a pass on. I liked the deal, I liked the player but unfortunately the Mariner luck came with it. I don't blame them not paying him to rehab. No reason to compound the loss just try and make yourself look correct.

Why would they do that when they could keep trying to bring back Iwakuma?
