Solid news dump day of essentially the firing of Edgar during the NFL trade deadline.

Kudos for them for making a move that needed to happen. I know this wasn't a Dipoto thing but the hiring was kind of a desperation thing in the first place. And with that what happened last year given the expectations for the offense someone needed to take the fall. Even though they essentially Ichrio'd him at least its something

also in this one
seattle needs .good young pitching
nix will be a rookie..and he is good enough..but he may be at tacoma some..lol
which means..you need ..more..good young pitching ...maybe some minor league guys like
weber..to help

erlin just takes lablanc's spot...or switch with ..elias

one more thing if ya trade the rotation you still have hernandez for one more year ..that just does not go away

Scott Servais - C - Mariners
Edgar Martinez will move into a new role with the Mariners as the organizational hitting advisor.

Martinez has served as hitting coach since June of 2015. However, he wanted a position in the organization that offers more flexibility than the major league job allows.

I am still a firm believer that the number one characteristic needed in a hitting coach is good hitters. :heh:

It took 3 weeks to come up with a position that already exists??? There are roving pitching coaches and roving catching coaches so why would it be so hard to come up with a roving hitting coach?

Regardless that is on the GM. Year 3 of a Mariners GM regime is typically when the coaches get blamed. Manager gets 1-2 more years and GM 2-3 then we get start over and watch it all happen again.

Actually this started last year with two coaches fired and now we fired two more. I guess we are speeding things up this time around.

My guess is Scott Brosius (sp) would be a good replacement for Edgar's hitting coach job. To be honest, I would like to see Scott Brosius as the replacement for Manager Scott Servais. :thumb:

It's just the same old shit....just a different year in a long stretch of the same old shit year in and year out.

Probably took 3 weeks cuz Jerry was being his typical "negotiating asshole self" about the whole thing and wouldn't give into what Edgar was wanting but he didn't want to have to deal with the big pile of shit, from fans, that would land all over his head if he let Edgar go, or even worse, canned him. (I don't trust much of anything that comes out of Dipoto's mouth). Dipoto and this organization is all a bunch of political bullshit IMO. Does anyone really wonder why the Mariners organization hasn't made post season for 17 straight seasons? It's not just a coincidence or bad luck. Oh, and Kuma failed the Dodger's physical so what does Jerry do? Who did he choose for his manager? Why didn't he grab a starter mid season? He should be a politician. He's more concerned about "paying fans" loving his ass rather than being a General Manager putting together a winning team. OK...down with the rant. :pound:

I love Edgar so am obviously bias but going into the off season it was how great Edgar was helping everybody. Then Jerry makes two deals for people who go completely against the philosophy Edgar was hired for. In no way can Edgar get the blame for Seager not being able to adjust to the shift. Being a hitting coach though in the majors is like being an offensive coordinator in football, fans either love you or hate you but it’s really all dependents on the players you have.

But yeah, the 3 weeks thing is BS, I truly think this was a PR move and there was a lot going on in the sports world and political world around Seattle that this could happen and not much backlash could come their way.

yeah idk on why.....depoto did not git a pitcher..at the deadline...but i give him a break on that cuz..there may not have been a suitable..one available.

.but at the offseason now there are no excuses...it is time to revamp the rotation...and add a...few .prospects to the
minors...maybe
if he can accomplish..this satifactorily...then he will prob keep his job for a while

Denard Span - OF - Mariners
Mariners declined their $12 million club option on OF Denard Span for 2019.

Span will get a $4 million buyout and hit the free agent market at age 34 (he turns 35 in February). The veteran outfielder batted .261/.341/.419 with 11 home runs and nine stolen bases in 137 games this past season between Tampa Bay and Seattle. He'll likely to have to settle for a one-year contract this winter.

rockies declined their $12.5 million club option on OF Gerardo Parra for 2019.

Parra will get a $1.5 million buyout and become a free agent. The 31-year-old appeared in 142 games with the Rockies in 2017, batting .284/.342/.372 with six home runs and 11 stolen bases. He may have to settle for a job as a fourth outfielder on the open market.
