Problem is we now have 3-4 more games until he pitches again...does he get the ball game 1 after the ASB? I'd like it if Bochy doesn't put him in the Allstar game AT ALL

Luckily, Boch is in control of all aspects that can make that a viable option, and I don't think it would bother Cain too much. He knows he has been struggling (<--- homer-based understatement :)).

He'll probably pitch an inning or two.

Last 16 games (since he got back), Panda batting .148 (9 for 61)
Last 25 games, Pence batting .172 (17 for 99)
Throw in Cain and there's your 3 reasons why we are where we are, pure and simple.

Meanwhile, the good news is Bumgarner has gotten 3 consecutive wins after 4 game losing streaks by the team. If that's not a stopper/ace then nothing is.

There's more than 3.

OPS for the past 28 days : Belt (.819), Torres (.585), Scutaro (.573), Pence (.566), Craw (.513), Pablo (.367)
OPS for the past 14 days : Belt (.737), Torres (.550), Scutaro (.536), Pence (.388), Craw (.456), Pablo (.375)

(The above numbers I collected last night during the game, so they're probably a little different today.)

Granted, Scutaro at least has a decent AVG (but no power) and Craw has been on fire the past week or so (.360 /.429/.400/.829). But there has been a LOT of suck spread around - 5 of the starting eight.

I'm really surprised they haven't shuffled the coaching staff and reassigned Meulens. When the whole team goes into this kind of slump for this long, a new approach is indicated.

Unlikely. He may in another uni next year, but he won't be traded.

Thats why you make the trade while the player is hot.. especially in a contract year

I would be SHOCKED if he now traded in the next 2 weeks, and there is no way he makes it through waivers.

The G's will offer a QO, and will probably sign him to a 2/35 or something like that.

Internet misapprehension number 435: Trade a player while he's "hot" because other GMs haven't been paying attention and will overpay.

Timmy isn't going to bring back much for three reasons:
1. He's been pretty bad for over a year; and
2. His contract expires at the end of the year; and
3. He's really expensive

I know this; SabeySabes knows this; other GMs know this.

Timmy won't be traded.

I don't know if they'll re-sign him (it wouldn't shock me), but they will definitely make a QO. They don't want his tenure with the club to end with a deadline trade. He's worth more to the Giants than anything they'd get back in a trade.

While I agree with you that he will not be traded, I am not so sure that he would not fetch a decent haul if he were traded. He has been a pretty study started over the last 4-6 weeks, and his peripherals all year have been pretty good. The fact that he showed last year that he can be a beast out of the pen during the post season as well has GOT to increase his value.

The fact that part of his value disappears if traded (QO compensation) does hurt his value to another team, but if LAA, Tex, Det, Bos, Tor, or TB (unlikely due to contract) want the extra boost in the stretch drive, they may be willing to Wheeler/Beltran it.

Sabean has his work cut out for him this year. Most years it's pretty obvious by mid July if you need to be a buyer or seller, and thank Jeebus in recent years for us it's been buyers all the way. But for obvious reasons, it's not so obvious this year which way to go.

If you ever are going to have your faith in the brass tested, it's this year.

On a playing value or WAR basis, probably yes. But if we can get our trading partner to pick up the balance of his contract, that is another matter altogether.

I would be floored if there were any non-minor deals done in the next couple weeks. This is San Diego we are beating upon. Not a Major League team.

Agreed, but the point stands about how murky things are as we approach the deadline. Obviously if this SD series is a fluke and we go back to sucking right after the break, we don't do any buying and probably sell a bit. But if this IS the start of a turnaround and over the last 12 games in July we go like 8-4 including 2-1 vs AZ, don't we have to try to win this year?

To be a buyer THIS MONTH, a few things need to happen, I think...

1) Pass the Rockies. Kind of trivial, but we need to be able to focus on only LA and Arz. If we are still looking up to 3 teams, we can not be buyers.

2) Go 6-4 on the upcoming "home stand". 2-1 against Arz (HUGE series); 2-2 against Cin (more important for the psyche than the record); 2-1 against the Cubs (gotta win the ones you should). 5-5 in that stretch, and I think JLo and/or Romo should be shopped.

3) Pick up at least 1 game on Arz. This will be TOUGH. Arz faces SS, SD and ChC in the same time period. If we can at least tread water, that may be enough.

4) Pick up 2 games on LA. LA faces Was, Tor and Cin in that time frame. That is a tough stretch.

I just looked at Colorado's schedule...

Ouch, babe.

ChC, Mia, Mil. We may not be able to pass them this month.
