According to capgeek the Kings can make the trade 1 for 1 and have 40k in cap space left...

Oilers should ask for Dwight King instead. But they won't.

Clifford for Gagner is akin to Kassian for Coho

@TSNBobMcKenzie:
Interesting tweets from @AJonSports regarding possible deal between LA and EDM involving Gagner and Clifford. Also hearing this possible.
It's complicated because of LA's cap issues -- EDM would have to retain salary? -- and LA may have to give up another piece. Stay tuned.

Oilers are most certainly going to retain salary in this deal, which might mean the Kings will probably give up something else in return too

When Bobby Mac says stay tuned, it usually means the deal will get done. He has a great track record.

So Boyd Gordon would be their number 2 center?

I see no way this could possibly go wrong.

EDM asked about Muzzin from LA but were told no last I heard. Martinez could be in mix w/ Clifford, but LA also wants to bolster D elsewhere

Okay, adding Martinez wouldn't be bad for the Oilers.

A month a half ago, the Islanders defenseman turned down a four-year, $16 million offer, The Post has learned.

MacDonald and his agent had previously asked for a four- or five-year deal at $5 million per, and even got the Islanders to come up from their original starting price of $3.5 million per.

In turning down the offer, the pending unrestricted free agent has left himself as one of the league’s most highly coveted trade pieces, before both Friday’s 3 p.m. Olympic roster freeze and before the March 5 trade deadline.

A league source said general manager Garth Snow already has received at least one substantial trade offer, and has turned it down. Assuming the market will only rise over the next 24 hours, as well as during the period after the two-week break and before the deadline, Snow is apparently banking on getting a better return for MacDonald than what he has been offered.

Snow is believed to be looking for at least a first-round pick in return for the 27-year-old, who has played his whole career for the Islanders since being a sixth-round draft pick in 2006.

We all saw this one coming.

If Kings have to throw a D man in with Kyle Clifford in prospective Sam Gagner deal, virtually guarantees a 2nd deal for D behind it.

Have a feeling this will be done by the start of tonight's games.

LA and Edmonton. Please make this trade early enough to have Clifford miss tonight's game, but not early enough that Gagner can get to LA.

Kthxbye.

Kings equipment guy is right this very minute finding all of Simon Gagne's old jerseys, and a stack of "r's",

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
To be clear, I can't assure you Clifford + a pick or prospect for Gagner + EDM retaining $ is guaranteed to happen but it's being discussed.

like Anaheim needs more. sheesh you would have to think one of their prized goalies is going back to the Isles.

With all that goalie depth, they match up pretty well. Still, a rental for a guy like Gibson or the like? Pretty pricey. I know that they want this done before the Olympics...but I'm not sure teams on the other side of the conversation are as excited to get it done before hand.

Hearing some Vanek-ANA rumors too.

Capgeek says Anaheim can take a little over $7.2M (annualized) at the deadline or $5.77M as of today. NYI are on the hook for $5.75 of Vanek's cap hit (Buffalo retained a portion).

I think Anaheim makes a real play for Vanek. With how good that team already is, adding a rental like Vanek makes sense for them. This is a team that, IMO, should go all in this year.

If the Isles are willing to either retain some of Vanek's salary or wait until after the Olympic break, I could definitely see this happening.
