It doesn't look good for Houston, that's for sure. Realistically the Chiefs are stuck with him next year, but then 2018 is very interesting. He's got a $20 million cap hit in 2018, but if they cut him it's a $12 million dead cap number. So they'd save $8 million against the cap, but that $12 million dead cap number would be a bitter pill to swallow. If he's not the same player he was by that point my guess is they bite the bullet and cut him, unless they can convince him to restructure.
This is exactly the scenario Elway and Miller haggled over .. the 3rd year guaranteed (Miller won) after the 5th business day. KC has no out to eat $25MM in 2017 if they cut him. Denver would be in the same boat if Miller had issues in 2017.
