Here's what I believe they're doing since the original group fared as well as they did.
A player by player evaluation with the goal being to find a guy, as necessary, to replace/upgrade the previous one. Since there are more free agents than they have draft picks, Fowler's cost and associated years on a new contract became problematic. So with respect to Fowler, I believe that they think they've gotten a better return on investment. We will see!!

Im under the impression they didn't even offer him a deal. There's reason to believe they could hit on edge in picks 1-4.
I agree with that evaluation about replacement and upgrading

The Commanders landed WR Michael Gallup former Cowboys player. He's likely going to be the WR2 along with Deebo and the other playmakers. This team still has Ertz. I foresee matchup difficulties for defenses.

The Commanders will have even more flexibility to pick BPA with their picks in the draft.

Why would Gallup be the #2 here?

That would be a terrible look if a guy unretires, walks in, and immediately becomes the #2 WR of the team.

I feel good about picking him up but wr2 is a huge leap for being out of football for 2 years

Let's see what happens. Ertz could be the second most productive receiver. A star rookie could be. As I mentioned it gives the team options and depth. They got him for the veteran minimum. You guys could be right to not have too high expectations. Either way I like the signing.

If they sign him to a long term deal, they need to be investigated for cap violation. There is no way they can have any type of cap room after the absurd deals they have been handing out to their WR corps.

It will either work, or it wont. If it works, I want to hire their cap guy because they have clearly found some type of loop hole.

If I am reading this right he fits under the cap now. If not they can rework some contract for additional room. If he wants $30 million it would take a lot of reworking.

Signing Tee and Chase actually increased their capability to sign Hendrickson because their 2025 cap hits are lower now that they have LTDs in place. At least that's what everyone is saying. I hear ya though. Gymnastics will be in play to get that done.
