Yep Giants dropped the ball when they wasted the gem by Cueto last night.

that was the game we needed... miniscule chance of pulling something out at this point. cubs are the better squad no doubt, but you always hope for the outside shot

It is amazing how fast you go from popping bottles in the locker room to the brink of elimination in the MLB playoffs.

As much as I love baseball for how unique it is, it's increasingly difficult for me to get behind the ALDS being only 5 games. Maybe you start the season a couple days earlier to work that out, but man I just hate that 0-2 means we're looking at two sweeps on the AL side, and another potential sweep on the NL side with another 1-0 game coming up.

Would anyone hardly notice or care if we moved the season back 2-3 days earlier? I don't think I would. Certainly an anachronism for a DS at that point. Love the WC being single elimination.

Meh, I am not a fan of it just because after 162 games, the division really ought to mean something in my view. 1 gamer staggers the winner's rotation and staff while punishing the loser double for not winning their division. I am fine with the WC being an appetizer for the main event- it's good theatre as far as I am concerned.

The point your missing is it's also ROUTINE for a MLB shortstop to make the throw to second. The variables you keep mentioning aren't variables for guys that have done it 100,000 times, if you look at both options again for the like 7th time you are more likely to make an error throwing the ball to first than the easier throw to second no matter the variables, the shortstop doesn't have to throw the ball between his legs to second, the second baseman doesn't have to catch the ball with his teeth, the entire baseball world disagrees with you and has for 145 years. Let it go already, you are wrong...

Again. Your argument from IS or STATUS QUO is invalid in its face.
The fact that a throw to first is super routine is valid, and then comparing it to all the variables we payed out when going to second??? It's a no brained to go to first.

This isn't little league... as you pointed out... so the routine-ness of going to first settled this debate

As a Mets fan I can't fault you for thinking this but i'm in agreement with Moose here, the wildcard is perfect the way it is as a sudden death, if you don't wanna be in that situation win your division.
