Al MacInnis did make the list, as did Leetch - Three biggest snubs for me (in no particular order) were Evgeni Malkin, Jarome Iginla, and Joe Thornton.

I expected Rod Langway to be on the list. I looked at the Norris Trophy history and found that among retired players, only two that won the Norris Trophy multiple times were excluded from the list - Rod Langway and Pierre Pilote.

There are 21 defenseman that made the list (low to begin with imo). You would think that the roughly dozen guys who have won the Norris multiple times would be on the list first and you add some of the offensive or hybrid defenseman after that.

I think Iginla should have definitely been on the list. The number of different types of awards he has is impressive and his raw goal total alone should have gotten him on the list. #16 in goals but you don't have among the 64 forwards on this list? C'mon, that's crazy.

I actually understand Malkin because he hasn't proven the longevity yet in my opinion. And for that same reason, I don't think Eric Lindros deserved to be on the list. He was awesome for a couple years, but just not nearly the career numbers, especially given the era he played in. Lindros isn't even among the top 100 scorers in points. (Iginla has nearly as many goals as Lindros has points)

I mentioned it in the other thread, but I think there were too many players on the list that made it simply because they were on Stanley Cup winning teams. I grew up watching Bob Gainey and Jacques Lemaire on those fantastic Hab teams of the 70s and they were both fine players, but Bob Gainey has 502 career points. Jacques Lemaire has a pretty respectable 835 points. Jarome Iginla currently has 115 more goals than Gainey has points and Joe Thornton currently has 500+ more points than Jacques Lemaire (in a tougher era to score as well).

Something just seems a little out of whack to me.

Langway was a heck of a defenceman, eloco, he easily could have been on the list.

He was the only one of the Big 3 that didn't make it (Larry Robinson and Serge Savard did).

I thought just because of what he's done(besides his points totals) in his time frame-Calder,Conn Smythe,Art Ross, and Stanley Cups would get him on list over some others.

Damphousse has 1205 points. Its a travesty he is not in the HOF or this.

It's always hard to make inter-generational arguments, but I really want to know, among current players, how Iginla, Malkin, and Jumbo Joe aren't in over Toews and Kane. Okay, maybe you use the "couldn't win the big one" argument wrt cup wins to argue against Iggy and Thornton. But Malkin has done everything Toews has ever done, better. There really is no argument. Does one extra cup win and Selke really undo an Art Ross, Hart, Lester, etc..? Has Toews even been nominated for a Hart? The obsession with Toews is borderline ridiculous.

Agreed on Toews. He has 200 less points than Malkin and 80 less points than Backstrom even though they all started playing in the same season.

Really among active players, Jagr and Iginla who are barely active should have been no brainers. And Crosby and Ovechkin are the seminal players of their generation who have half the Hart Trophies over the last decade between them. Those 4 guys all stop playing tomorrow, they are still in the Hall of Fame. Joe Thornton as well, though I think he's a close call on this list. I see him in the #90-120 range, so it could go either way for me.

Toews and Kane stop playing tomorrow, neither ends up in the top 300 in points all-time and neither is close to the Hall. Kane has only had ONE season where he scored more than 30 goals, and he's a goal scorer, no? How many times has Iginla scored more than 30.... fucking ELEVEN times.

Seems to be the more Stanley cups you won the bigger love affair when it comes to the list?

Yup. I think Keith you can justify too, because he's won two Norris trophies. But if you're judging history (which this list is), you have to look and say Keith has won the two Norris, he's the anchor there, he's the rep from that team and that era. Not putting three damn guys on there, especially when the two forwards have 0 Hart, Richard, and Ross trophies between them.

Thornton and Iginla have 5 of those trophies between them, but they played on mediocre teams, so that's their fault somehow.

Damn it, now I'm pissed off. ;)

Of course I grew up hating the Caps, but Langway was one of the few I enjoyed. Between 85 and 89 Langway scored 8 goals total, but scored a goal in each of the four games I went to in DC during that period.

Lol. What are the odds?

I think with Langway, you also have to consider DC wouldn't have a flourishing franchise. We might be sitting here talking about if Washington deserves an expansion team without him. Only a few guys you can point to and say that aboot.

It's doubly frustrating to see three current Hawks on the list and not one of them is Marian Hossa.

I would also agree that Langway should be there over Keith. I'd even argue that Larry Murphy should be there, over Keith. Woop woop was very strong for a long, long time.

On my list, I'd remove Keith and Pronger and replace them with Langway and Murphy.
