Officiating has been extra brutal this year, it seems. It's not even the bang-bang plays that seem to be the issue. It's common sense penalties that really don't even affect the play at hand where a flag come flying in 30 seconds (ok, exaggerated) after the play....I don't have an answer for how, but it has got to get better.
The officiating on a number of games yesterday have pretty much been the dominant conversation on the Sirius NFL channel this morning. Normally on the day after a slate of games have been played, it's virtually 100% game talk. Not today.

Refs picked up the flag on an obvious lineman downfield during the Pats final drive vs the Bills yesterday. It was on the play that basically made the drive possible, a 34 yard screen to Stevenson. Replay showed the lineman at least 5 yards downfield (2 are allowed). Why they picked up the flag? Who knows.
Where was the screen pass caught? Was he at or behind the line of scrimmage?

This isn’t true at all. This has already been addressed. As soon as the center twitches, that is the snap count. Some OTs are better than others at timing that up. Some operations work tirelessly on that timing to create the look that you are deeming to be a false start.
They show the replays during the games. Even the retired officials who explain that shit said it was illegal. Hell there are some tackles lining up like a fucking slot WR. O-line can not move before the ball is snapped. It is an unfair advantage. It needs to stop.

Why do we cite retired officials as the end all be all in threads were people are whining about officials? It’s another iteration of the same damn thing. The league has looked at it carefully because of all the bitching. The league has come out and said that the Chiefs OT who made this famous isn’t actually getting a false start. He can go as soon as the center moves the ball even a fraction of an inch.
Hell there are some tackles lining up like a fucking slot WR.
And they are penalized. As long as the OT sets up his inside foot on the line of scrimmage he’s allowed the width of his body for him to stagger his outside foot. The inside foot establishes him as being on the line of scrimmage.

They don’t move before the ball is snapped. They move AS the ball is stepped.

Agreed. These "rules experts" are the same assholes that got the calls wrong to begin with. But they retired because they're not even good enough to do that anymore.

That's not correct. He can put his feet wherever he wants. His helmet has to break the plane of the centers beltline. They even give them some lattitude because several years ago they changed the rule so O Linemen do not need to put their hand on the ground. But can sit upright with their feet in the same positions as if their helmet did lltouch the centers belt. The refs are generally letting Guards line up where they break the centers belt, but then letting tackles line up where they break the Guards belt. It creates kind of a flying V formation of the O-Line. You see it in almost every game. But some Tackles aren't even that far up on the line.

No. They move before. Noone would be complaining if it was at the same time.

Commentators are the real problem not the refs...

Problem with commentators is that they are just like us fans... they dont have every camera, and once we see something we try our damndest to show everyone else what we see...

We see what the commentators want us to see...

Correct on the rules point of relation to the center. I stand corrected.

It was never as bad as this year. There were some bad calls that changed games but it was not all game long.

Reminds of when Deacon Jones jumped offside and then jumped back. They didnt call off side even though the rule had clearly not been changed yet. From then on they allowed defensive players to jump back. Now we have this mess every play of who drew who offside because of a retarded allowance that never should have been.

Ridiculous. I think most of us are grown up enough to watch the replay and make our own conclusions.

Your old eyes are failing you.
You are just giddy because refs called 10 penalties on the Phins last night and ZERO against the Eagles.

Cause I am so sure they played a perfect game. with no infractions

you missed my point... the commentators will say something, and then they show the replays that prove themselves correct first... and they harp on it...

sometimes they are right... no doubt, and we see the right replays to make the correct calls ourselves... but the fact is that we dont get all the cameras...

You’re watching the tackle in relation to the rest of the OL and not for first movement by the center. These OTs who are good at it have just eliminated the split second lag time from center movement to center snap.

They are not watching the ball they know what the snap count is and move just prior to it. It is that simple.

Didn’t need it. The Dolphins can’t compete on the line of scrimmage.

I’ve seen a face mask that should have been called against the Eagles (very next play was the tipped ball INT TD; made no impact) and I saw an uncalled hold on Jason Kelce that would have erased a 3 yard Swift gain. That’s about it. The Eagles played a pretty clean game minus Hurts ball security issues (a mounting problem).

Hey while I have you…have you been able to remove Lamar Jackson’s foot from your rectum? How do you give up 350+ in the air to a glorified RB?!?!?

Aaron Glenn still has not figured out to rush a guy up the middle against running QBs. Hopefully they tear him a new asshole this week cause it is not that hard to figure out.

I was going to send a copy of football for dummies down to the sideline for him but thought it would be over his head.

My biggest issue this year is not calling false starts on offensive tackles. They are all allowed to take a step back before the ball is snapped. Sometimes it is close to 2 full steps back.

WTF!!!!!!!
Seen a ton of that this year, and it is rarely called.
