the problem is- that there are practically no hitters on teams that will be sellers who are good with future control. Literally- Soto and Reynolds are the only 2 guys maybe in the entire big leagues. I dont think marginal outfield upgrades like Laureano or Benintendi are even worth it.

The Nationals farm team is really bad- so maybe a volume trade for top 100-150 prospects is more attractive to them- than just an absolute top 10 guy would be.

and gosh....did you guys see much of Julio Rodriguez during the ASB? That guy is just a freaking star. Mariners fans are so lucky to be able to watch a guy like that going forward.

Honestly- Julio Rodriguez might be the most untradeable guy in baseball right now. Other candidates would be Vlad Jr., maybe Tatis Jr.

Dickie V gave a great speech last night at The Espys.

Hope he beats the odds. Stu Scott and Craig Sager died less than a year of accepting the award.

Saints should be interesting

think of how much improved their WR core will be with a healthy Thomas and drafting Olave. HUGE upgrades. They got good value on their other 1st rounder o-lineman as well.

some challenges with Winston coming off major surgery.

I kind of ripped on them for getting rid of so much future draft capital - but I heard something interesting on the radio that I had not taken into account- they have a huge asset that will probably net them AT LEAST a future first round pick- and potentially much more--- maybe as much as 2 firsts and a second- or a first and 2 seconds, etc......

I am sure you can guess what that asset it.

There are some real questions with the Saints too though. Will Thomas be fully healthy again? How much time does Kamara miss to suspension? Even if fully healthy, how reigned-in will Winston be? Will he become a turnover machine again under new coaching?

my favorite Guardians trade targets are:

Sean Murphy- catcher- Oakland
Wilson Contreras- catcher- Chi Cubs
Bryan Reynolds- OF- Pirates
Luis Castillo- SP- Reds
Frankie Montas- SP- Oakland
Tyler Mahle- SP- Reds
Pablo Lopez- SP- Marlins

with Civale being hurt and ineffective before he went on the DL- I think a veteran starter could really help. Tribe does have a ton of SP prospects- but putting another #2 or #3 in the rotation right away would help a ton.

Espino and Williams- I think are still a ways away. I dont think either will pitch meaningful innings even next year- maybe get a cup of coffee. Allen the same though he is a tick down. Some of the other guys are nice- and maybe one or two hits- but they are more #3 types and down.

I actually think Mahle is a great fit- some team control left- wont be too expensive. Seems like a guy that would thrive getting out of the bandbox in Cincy with the Guardians coaching staff.

They could also use a reliever- but there are just so many guys to list reliever wise- unless you want a star like Bednar.

the "go for it" moves would be to get Contreras, and a guy like Josh Bell. Let Bell play first, DH Naylor, - IF they think Reyes is a lost cause (which would be sad). Putting Contreras and Bell in this lineup I think would give them an excellent chance at winning the division. Both are just pure rentals though. It would make for a fun stretch run though- especially with how big of an upgrade both would be over what catcher and Reyes have produced thus far.

and honestly- I like Bo Naylor at catcher- and he has rehabbed his prospect status a TON this year--- but getting an established guy with control like Murphy would be just amazing. Every single service just about dropped Naylor to non-prospect after his terrible year last year--- but - when you look at the context- he sucked last year, lost all the previous year to covid, and was hurt the year before that- you can kind of give him an excuse.

I know that if you have free agents leave your team you get compensatory picks-- but I am not sure if you trade for a rental (a guy about to be a free agent) if you get a compensatory pick. Something in the back of my mind is saying "no". However- if you do---- getting Contreras/Bell types- letting them just walk and getting the compensatory pick and letting the clock re-set on those guys before having to be added to the 40 man instead of being exposed to the Rule 5 draft is actually pretty sneaky smart.
They do desperately need a catcher and another SP would be nice but honestly I would rather them go all-in on Soto and at least give a long-term extension a thought. Everything aligns. Low salary, saving up to pay young stud a ton of money, he is only 24. It would be a huge move and like you said, I think they could get him for a collection of prospects but not a top 3 prospects. The Indians can afford to give away talent but the big question, if it's just a rental...I don't see why. I don't think with how young they are the window is 2-3 years like some of these other loaded teams.

Bro…it’s the Indians. They’re not trading for a guy looking for a pay day. They’re the franchise that trades guys looking for a payday.

Sure but with the change of ownership, yes it isn't official for years and the extremely low payroll the next two seasons it doesn't seem as unlikely as previous years. Does it happen? I give it a 5% or less but if there was a time to make this move, it's now. The team is extremely young. Adding Soto to the lineup would be immense.

Every team will want Soto (well, those willing to spend), will be interesting to see where he ends up.

Yeah the teams will give to give him what he wants now have the advantage but as far as compensation, CLE is up there. That doesn't mean much. If the Yankees or Dodgers get him it will make me sick. Doesn't really make sense for the Yankees since they didn't even offer Judge anything yet.

I was thinking the Braves is an option but I don't think they would trade him to a team in the divison.

The Cubs? They have awhile to go to be good and they just sold off their players. Baez, Rizzo and Bryant. Looks like Contreras is on the move, maybe they are looking to build around a player. An option.

Who knows at this point. I just hope he goes to a team other than the Yanks, Dodgers, Red Sox or Astros.

Like all these ideas.....as you kind of alluded, whether they would make a deal for a catcher depends what they think Naylor could become (and probably needs to start, uh, becoming by next season).

Probably also depends where they see payroll going with Blitzer coming aboard.

Tom Brady is living every man's dream, earning 10s of millions to get away from the house and play a kid's game. Curry just can't say that since his wife would smack him, lol.

Just to piss off any TB12 fans. disclaimer- if anyone takes this seriously it'll be a great laugh

Ever notice the only pro athletes that got better after the age of 35 are Bonds, Clemens & TB12?

yah....

Yanks have not even paid Judge yet like you said.
Braves just dealt a lot of prospect capital for Olson.
Cubs are just worthless.
Philly has an awful farm system.
White Sox are too cheap.
Boston is going to have issues re-signing Devers/Xander- so I dont think they would be in.
Angels need to pay Ohtani and are already paying Trout and Rendon huge cash.
Same with Padres- a lot of guys making money- and basically their whole rotation is up for free agency.

Dodgers have plenty of minor league talent to make a deal. Mets could pull a deal off. San Fran I would say is also an option. I guess my darkhorses would be Baltimore, Cleveland, Seattle,

I think Seattle is definitely a dark horse. Pretty good farm system and they are on the rise. Definitely under the radar. Sadly they will likely still be behind Houston for years to come.

Kelenic would be a great guy to build the deal around. They have pitching....Noelvi marte would be a guy the NAts would love- but hard to give up. Hancock is a good pitcher.

Kelenic, Marte alone is a ton to give up. Putting Soto in the outfield with JRod would be bonkers.

For the Indians, I would like Mancini or Bell but Bell is the one guy that I would love to have at this point. Add more power, he is having a good year and overall a pretty good hitter and gets on base. career .270 avg .360 obp

Yeah they have some ammo. Could throw Kirby in there if they don't want to give up Marte.
