He was going for it 4th and 7 against the Browns in his own territory. I mean looking at their %'s it has worked but at some point in a close game you just have to take the points. 3 can go a long way in a close game. If he takes one of those FG's they likely win the game vs KC

I agree. However, you also have to stay true to who you are as a team and thats what they do. He will never lose the team doing that.

From what I have read and heard, that is how they game plan. So, at the least, its not something they do without a plan around it.

But as I said, while I agree with going for it in most cases, there are also times when its best to just try to extend the lead.

That's not a bad offensive game plan, as long as you score a TD. Wonder if this game will come back to haunt the Chargers in a few weeks?

It could. Folks may end up pointing at this game and saying it cost them winning their division. Of course, if they were successful and turned one of those into a touchdown...maybe in a few weeks folks are pointing at it as the game that won them the division.

Honestly, I think folks should be doing less criticizing of that and more praising the Chiefs defense. I mean, that defense stepped up and shut them down 4 times. Odds are that, even a bad offense is going to convert 1 of those. But the Chiefs made the play every time.

I said it in the NFL board. Dude left a lotta cheese and lettuce on the table with his wack play calling. At least nine points by my calculations., Which woulda been plenty to win the game...

I guess, but to be fair they make these decisions BEFORE they see the results. If their numbers say they have a 60% chance to make it, for instance, I can see why they go for it.

I mean, I remember some Browns fans ripping the Browns even after when the actual results gave them 7 points but had they kicked they at best get 6.

Will say those 4th and goal from the 5 or longer seem a tad riskee.

Like I said in a different comment you take the points when playing an offense like the Chiefs. But I was surprised to hear last night how many times the Chargers have gone for it on 4th down this season.

Kind of see it the other way...generally need TDs and not 3s to beat an offense like that.

we still lost, but pretty sure going for it for us week one helped out.

Totally agree. And great point about giving the Chiefs D some acknowledgment for the multiple stops they made in the red zone.

It's the Browns, so I'd be surprised if they reschedule the game. Now if it was the Ravens (or any other good team) the game would have already been moved.

Pretty sure it was only 4th and 2 against us in own territory. Yep....4th and 2 from own 24.

Thats the general rule and what most teams do. But evidently, that hasnt been the Chargers m.o. So if they dont go for it, they may end up with the players wondering why they are changing how they play.

If it had been one time and they missed then yeah an argument could be made. But when you do it multiple times when you aren’t yet up by a td and the game goes to OT you deserve criticism. Coaches get paid to adjust, it wasn’t working. Kick only one fg and you win the game and your whole season looks much differently now. Good luck getting a great kicker.
