The sign of a team becoming a contender is when they realize that projected end of the round 1sts aren't a real roadblock in trades that net the reigning MVP. Who cares if Baker is 26? He isn't remotely Aaron Rodgers yet, and likely never will be. I know Browns fans are used to mediocrity, but cherishing it is a bit odd.
And Rodgers sat basically for 3 years before he began starting regularly.....so he hasn't taken the amount of hits a 15 years starter at 37 has.

Age is the entire reason it's a deal breaker.

Mediocrity? They were possibly a shitty fumble call away from being in the AFC championship. With missing effectively their entire secondary.

I have no doubt Rodgers would make them a better team this year...probably next.

Nice framing. In other words, they lost in the second round after almost blowing a 4 TD 1st quarter lead to a struggling Steelers team. They almost managed a comeback against the Chiefs after trailing at half time 19-3 when Mahomes went down.

Rodgers makes them a co-favorite with the Chiefs IMO. They may never be a favorite with Baker. Embrace the average option!

Eh...both teams are breaking in some new pieces. Chiefs breaking in a new O line.

The Browns are replacing as many as 9 defensive players and Andy Reid is a monster in September. That's a big advantage for the Chiefs.

So in your estimation a team with a 3rd year qb who was a few plays from the AFC championship is destined for average?

What about his stats show you that he's going to approach Rodgers levels? Or ever overtake Mahomes and Chiefs, since they will likely share a career span? You have to factor the golden retriever Josh Allen into that mix too. It's awfully tough to pass on a true Super Bowl shot like that in favor of the unknown.

I'd be surprised to see Cleveland win honestly. It sucks for an opening game for two reasons. One it's a very tough game. Probably the toughest. Secondly if they somehow won the hype machine would be out of control

I don't think he will ever be as good as either. But again it's about a window for the Browns. If they did go Rodgers they have to find a qb in 3 to 4 years. Then your entire franchise build depends on getting the right replacement on the fly. For a franchise that hasn't had a decent qb in 30 years prior.

You could look at it the other way though. If they land a QB to groom behind Rodgers, they could get that rookie QB contract benefit when Rodgers retires and extend their window that way. Once Baker gets extended, the Browns will need to start making difficult decisions due to the cap in terms of keeping their better players.

Rodgers gives them a much better chance of winning a SB though.

He doesn't have to be as good as Rodgers or Mahomes. He just needs to be as good as last year. Obviously, you'd like to see continued growth and improvement. But, with the roster upgrades, if he's only as good as last year, that should be enough to make them a real threat.

As I hinted earlier they will have to move on from either OBJ or Landry and Njoku for sure for starters. Likely go cheaper at the other edge also. To make room for Chubb and Baker's extensions.

Exactly. He doesn't have to be one of the 15 best qbs of all time.

right

not only that but Rodgers doesnt want to go to Cleveland- he wants to go West.

not only that- but they just drafted Love in the first round- which was what pissed off Rodgers in the first place- they arent just going to abandon that as a backup. Chances are they dont even want a QB back for Love and that they would prefer other team building assets.

the chances of Rodgers to Cleveland are literally zero. Quite frankly its not a great topic to talk about since there is literally no chance it will happen.

The Browns chance for improvement will be through a defense that has seriously been upgraded and will get back some talent that was injured--- and for the first time Baker actually playing in the same system, and an offense that is coming back with all 11 starters-- plus a healthy OBJ.

In the AFC the Chiefs, Ravens, Browns and Bills are the best teams. For where the Browns were 3 years ago- to be considered among the best teams in football, and have a legit Super Bowl shot is one helluva development.
