The play call there was like they were 4th and goal. So bizarre. Throwing to the middle of the field there was so stupid.

lol

And literally, the only thing that you can't have happen, happens. That's where Wilson needed to overrule his rookie head coach.

This makes a lot of sense. At the same time, he wasn’t great for you guys last year either. He’s clearly on the back end of his career. Maybe you’re right that he’s gonna find it. But transition and change for an athlete is always difficult. It’s even more difficult when the older athlete is experiencing some traits diminishing with age. Russ never stood out for his accuracy or a howitzer for an arm. His mobility and decision making made him elite. Despite being older, he’s gotta run around with his hair on fire to get back to being that elite guy.

Yeah, that's why I think he needs to scrap the changing how he plays idea for this year. Tough to change how you play and learn a new system and team at the same time.

We used to have a concept like that on the goal line because you see so much man down there. QB has to search presnap for two keys: matchup and alignment of DB. It looks like they were expecting a man look and didn’t get it. Or Russ picked the wrong guy presnap. You would think the concept is flawed because you’re right that you have four routes coming to the middle. But it’s supposed to be quick. When you throw on 3 step, it happens so quickly you’re just looking for receiver leverage positioning. If you don’t throw on the third step, you’re fucked in that concept.

Solid point. And you are right. He was keying on the wrong guy.

I still hate the play there

I am not going to criticize him over 1 play.

It did seem to me as if Russ’ play was slipping a bit over the last 2 years. Not to the point he is bad, but he is more a middle of the pack QB than a top 1.

I have seen nothing this season to dissuade me from that opinion.
you and I actually agree.

I thought it was obvious the last couple years that he was not what he used to be.

I think that with undersized guys- it can go quickly because so many times they rely on athleticism. Russ still had/(has?) and arm, but it does not look like he can make plays with his legs how he used too and that was a big part of his game.

He is going to be 34 in November and has played a long time and taken a lot of hits.

when the Browns gave up a bounty for their own troubled QB- the fact that hes only was one of the main drawing points of the trade.

I would not have given up the haul the Broncos gave up and the 250 for Wilson when he looks like he has started to decline and is as old as he is.

I do not think you can ask a guy at his age with the hits he has taken and at his size to still be the guy running around making plays happen. He migth be able to do it for a week or two- or a stretch of the season- but he is either going to wear himself out or get murdered by the defense.

Russell Wilson sucks.

When Wilson got to the Broncos I remember the local news going 100% super-homer and saying they'll be Super Bowl bound this season.

He was terrible last night. 0-6 in the red zone with an int.

How much of the blame should be put on first year coach Hackett? His decision to try a 60-something yard FG on 4th and 5 instead of going for it a couple games ago was a bad one.

little worried about this series.

Guardians have a weakness against lefties and 2 out of the 3 Rays starters are lefties and they have some good bullpen arms that are lefties too.

Naylor, Gimenez and Kwan are gonna have their work cut out for them. Owen Miller is gonna have to step up.

A majority of our voters picked the Yankees. Why do you think the Guardians can win? There's no doubt it would be an upset for the $68 million Guardians to knock off the $246 million Yankees. But upsets happen in October, and I like the way Cleveland's pitching staff stacks up against the Yankees. Since around the first week of August, this has been arguably the best staff in baseball. Both the rotation and the bullpen have contributed to that, but the relievers in particular have gone to another level.

The Yankees have the firepower to simply club the Guardians into submission. But if games stay tight and terse into the late innings, the pendulum swings in the direction of Cleveland. You might think the Guardians' AL Central-heavy schedule accounts for some of their lofty numbers. But here's a stat: After the All-Star break, if you remove games against any AL Central team from the numbers, only the Dodgers and Astros had a better team ERA than Cleveland, and the Guardians were just a tick behind the Astros for No. 2. -- Bradford Doolittle

That is interesting.

I don’t even think it was super homerific to say that about Denver. They had some really nice pieces before acquiring Russ, they just needed that QB to be in the conversation.

Problem is, at least so far, it hasn’t worked. Russ has played poorly, skill position guys might not be as good as we thought, and the defense is good, but not good enough to overcome a bad offense.

Lastly, the head coach does seem way over his head.

When everybody within an offense is underachieving, I think it is fair to assume the coach might just be the biggest issue.

The over the top stuff I've heard from fans and local media since I got to this state in kinda funny. Here are some examples.

Osweiler was gonna be the next great Broncos QB after Peyton. Then they said the same thing about Paxton Lynch. Then they said the same thing about Drew Lock.

Over the past couple of years towards the end of disappointing seasons the local news would mention season ticketholders were looking to sell their game tickets. What about sticking with your team through good times and bad?

I thought the talk of them getting to the S.B. this season was more about what the fans were hoping for rather than being realistic about things. How many rookies HC's have made it to the SB?

But I will say I was expecting more outta the Broncos. Doubt many thought they'd start off 2-3.
