this is kind of interesting---- among 10 biggest colleges in the US- 3 are in the Big Ten- MSU, PSU, OSU.....all are pretty highly rated on US News and World Report Rankings.....OSU at #54....PSU at #56....about right.

Yep. The operative word is “decent”. This conversation started when he was putting it up there with Northwestern Michigan PSU USC and UCLA. They don’t belong in that group.

Oh, I missed that part. Yes, they're a tier below. They're not Alabama or LSU....but they're not on Northwestern level for sure.

it looks like the progression of Naylor and stubborn-ness of giving young prospects away were the main reasons. I have no problem with it if they think Naylor is the real deal. The have pitching depth in the minors but catcher was a big need. Eventuallu they are going to be log jammed at certain positions and will make a trade, the fit has to be there. I think if there was one guy it was Murphy. I didn’t want Contreras.

Waldichuk- who they got from the Yanks for Montas is not nearly as highly rated as Williams - and certainly not close to Espino. Same with Valera.

it seems that they would not take what fair market value is- if it wasnt one of the top guys......

I would have traded Arias and Allen for Murphy--- 2 guys that are pretty consistently ranked in the top 100 or close to- of most lists.....but giving up the very high end guys for a catcher that bats .230- even if he has pop and is excellent defensively- seems like too big a gamble.

I wouldnt say bragging- but certainly a solid school and much better than the vast majority of SEC schools. My whole point was the Big Ten, overall has a very strong academic core with schools like Michigan, Northwestern, Ohio State, Penn State, now UCLA, USC...
