As Mariner fans, tough for us not to overreact. We have to see it to believe it unfortunately.

It's just 1 game but man it sure would be nice not to face plant in April for once. Hopefully they just don't get swept here.
If not for the errors, I would be very happy with today's game, win or lose. I liked what I saw from both sides of the plate. A few very undisciplined ABs, but most of the guys were working the zone against some excellent pitchers from the Rangers staff. Montgomery was fun to watch.

Was only able to catch a few innings on radio but that's great that you noticed a difference with working the Zone. Obviously will take a while to see the full effect. Maybe like Maurer, Monty is one of those guys that will look much more comfortable in the pen.

Also the difference between an Ianetta AB and a Zunino AB should make a big positive difference

Everytime they say "no runs, no hits" you need to take a shot. and if they say "and a man left on", you take an additional shot for each man left on base.

Really liked what Montgomery brought out of the pen. If Furbush ever gets going again, it will be a tough call between Montgomery and Nuno. I feel Montgomery has the better stuff and would be the better option if he can get the mental aspect of the BP out. He is also not a lefty specialist and get necessary outs vs RHs without having to constantly go to the pen.

Fun fact for Ianetta today. He reached base 3 times today. That happened all of 5 games last year for the M's.

But how is it different? New names o the back of the uniforms is the only difference as of today. Tomorrow may be different, but as as of now; S.O.M.

Well, hopefully you can find some sort of excitement for the season.

I bet if you try real hard you can get past the typo and figure it out. Don't strain yourself though, it's not worth it.

It is basically the same ol' mariners, whether Magoos want to hear it or not.

It's a losing organization, it has been for a very long time, and there's only so much any GM could do in one off season to try to fix the institutional chaos Nintendo has cultivated with all of their decisions for more than a decade. Right now, we're the team where veterans go for a fresh (or sometimes last) shot, or we're the team that will sign 1-2 marquee player for more than anybody else would because we have to.

That's our team, and until we have a roster that can prove otherwise, the Magoos on here will just have to live with long-time baseball fans making acerbic comments.

I'm about as close to optimistic as I can be with this team with the hiring of Dipoto and the way he flipped the majority of on and off field staff. Frankly, those changes are more intriguing to me than the roster changes. And I'm convinced he won't deal with any bullshit from the feckless front office/ownership group we have.

All that said, a big achievement for this roster would be .500, and that's only if they avoid playing like total idiots like they did yesterday.

Also, NW, was there any thought about taking a road trip from Spring Training in AZ down to TX for the opening series?

It's one game guys

Oh if I had money for all the times I've heard this. It's always just one game. It's always just a fluky bad inning. It's always excuses. Just wait til the next game. Just wait til next year. Always the same tired story with the Mariners. Shittiest franchise in MLB.

The it's only one game theory doesn't seem to make sense. I don't think by any means someone should be panicking but why is one game in April meaningless yet come September every game is curcial? It's not like this organization didn't lose out on a WC game by one game. In every game you can learn something from.

That is something we agree on... it's not worth it.

Not anymore. In my past life while living in Washington I did things like that. I traded money for a new, relaxed life and my family has made sacrifices because of it here in AZ. A few spring games and maybe MLB package is my style now. It would have been though.
