Release the Kraken - Fuck the Canucks
Just walked in, saw the score and my first thought was welcome back to 3rd place in the division. Houston is passing us by at light speed. 10.5 games back.
I still think this team has enough talent to get to 90 wins, which would mean 54-36 from here on out. Obviously it would mean getting healthy, staying healthy, and vastly improving play from what we've seen these last 3 weeks, but a 90+ win team is what we had after about 50 games of the season when they were 31-21. Not saying I would bet a lot of money on it, but I see a pathway to get there with what we have. As bad as June has been, the Mariners are still #2 in the AL in both runs scored and ERA.Is this the last night we see this team above .500 this year? Or are they due for another run if/when they can get some arms back?
My concern isn't with the players or their health, it's with the management. Servais is a first year manager and I'm not yet convinced he has the skill set to guide them out of this funk. It's the toughest part of managing a baseball team and so far I haven't been impressed with his reactions to any of it. His stars are not appearing to feel any heat, nor are we seeing Cano/Cruz take things on themselves and do something about leading this team.I still think this team has enough talent to get to 90 wins, which would mean 54-36 from here on out. Just as likely though: we don't nose out of this free fall soon enough and we become sellers in July. Vets like Smith, Cruz, Lind and maybe even Guti could be valuable to teams looking for a bat.
He had a sore elbow during warmups (big shocker)Why didn't Sampson start the game? The early lineup showed that he was scheduled. Nuno pitched on the 19th and again on the 20th. And he goes 68 pitches today. Geezuz, he's going to be the next pitcher to hit the DL.
