IMHO Texas and ND are head and shoulders above all on this one. With all the $ and four and five star players those schools get, they should be on top year after year but haven't been close in quite a while.

2 years from playing for a NC is "quite a while"???

Wow. It's like some of you just started watching football yesterday.

Well I'm telling you in plain english that since they started ranking classes, no team with a class average over 11.4 has won a national championship and that 11.4 team had Vince Young.

I'm not saying it's the end-all-be-all, but it's not hocus pocus either.

It's one indicator.

I agree, its ranking system is about Potential only. If you get 20 5 star guys and only 8 live up to the potential or exceed it, then you have 8 really awesome players.

But almost all of UCLA 5 star players are no longer on the team.
Your JC player were VERY Underrated.

So say in 2009 UCLA had 3 5 star players and Nebraska had none, so saying UCLA is better on paper is just WRONG. In 2012, those 3 5 star players are ALL Gone.

Recruiting.

2008 - 13th
2009 - 14th
2010 - 8th
2012 - 13th

Their 4 year average right there comes close to the 4 year class average ranking of the last 8 or so BCS national champs.

Some stats I compiled a while back:

Let's look at the National champs from 2004 to present and their respective recruiting classes that comprised those championship teams using rivals rankings. Rivals began ranking classes in 2002. I'll even add Nebraska's avg class ranking through the same years for comparison.

2004 National Champ: USC
Class rankings:
-'02 - 13th
-'03 - 3rd
-'04 - 1st
Avg Ranking: 5.6 Nebraska's avg: 36.6

2005 National Champ: Texas
Class rankings:
-'02 - 1st
-'03 - 15th
-'04 - 10th
-'05 - 20th
Avg Ranking: 11.5 Nebraska's avg: 28.5

2006 National Champ: Florida
Class Rankings:
-'02 - 20th
-'03 - 2nd
-'04 - 7th
'-05 - 15th
-'06 - 2nd
Avg Ranking: 9.2 Nebraska's Avg: 26.8

2007 National Champ: LSU
Class Rankings:
-'03 - 1st
-'04 - 2nd
-'05 - 22nd
-'06 - 7th
-'07 - 4th
Avg Ranking: 7.2 Nebraska's Avg: 21.4

2008 National Champ: Florida
Class Rankings:
-'04 - 7th
-'05 - 15th
-'06 - 2nd
-'07 - 1st
-'08 - 3rd
Avg Ranking: 5.6 Nebraska's Avg: 19

2009 National Champ: Alabama
Class Rankings:
-'05 - 18th
-'06 - 11th
-'07 - 10th
-'08 - 1st
-'09 - 1st
Avg Ranking: 8.2 Nebraska's Avg: 19.2

2010 National Champ: Auburn
Class Rankings:
-'06 - 10th
-'07 - 7th
-'08 - 20th
-'09 - 19th
-'10 - 4th (including Cam Newton)
Avg Ranking: 8.4 Nebraska's Avg: 22.6

2011 National Champ: Alabama
Class Rankings:
-'07 - 10th
-'08 - 1st
-'09 - 1st
-'10 - 5th
-'11 - 1st
Avg Ranking: 3.6 Nebraska's Avg: 21.6

The average ranking of the classes that made up these National Championship teams is 7.4

How did Nebraska finish in all of those years?

I really don't see how the vote is close between Texas and Notre Dame; the Fighting Irish has sucked blarney stones for an extended period of time. They beat a 7-7 Hawaii team in the Bum Fuck Egypt Bowl in 2008, and then beat a down (7-6) Miami team in the Sun Bowl in 2010. They had lost the nine previous bowl games they were in.

They are definitely the most underachieving sonsabitches on the list.

I think Illinois belongs on the list more than Missouri. Illinois has an EXCELLENT athletic tradition in other sports, they pretty much should own Chicago but don't. Plus the Illini have been dreadful for most of the past 4 decades.

I think Illinois and Missouri are really similar. Sure, the populations are a good size, but the major metropolitan areas are near borders. Illinois as a university doesn't really appeal to Chicagolanders that much with better schools nearby, and money being not such a big issue for a lot of them. Family traditions at Notre Dame, Michigan, Wisconsin, Northwestern, Purdue, and even smaller schools like Valparaiso kind of cut into loyalty.

Same goes for Missouri. I even have some family friends on the Missouri side of Kansas City who more likely to support Kansas. It's closer. They're Chiefs fans. They identify with KANSAS City culturally.

It's close because Texas should be kicking ass every year in recruiting. They have a huge talent base to choose from.

To be honest I don't understand the appeal of Notre Dame anymore. Players can get as much exposure going to any number of schools. Heck if you want to be a pro go to the SEC. If a player can stand out in that conference the NFL is going to call your name early in the draft.

I based my pick off national titles, period. If you look at Texas wins all time, bowl wins, bowl appearances and yet they have as many national titles as Illinois?

Come on people, put that vote where it belongs and that's for the university of Texas in Austin.

Based on the options in the poll it's a good choice but UGA has even fewer than Texas.

Have you ever been to Tucson? Its a shit stain in the desert...

It's not like USC is located or plays their games in Malibu or Beverly Hills. I've been to the Coliseum on a number of occasions. It's a DUMP, the parking is a joke & if you're dumb enough to wear red or blue, prepare to defend yourself.

You you didnt read my post. I said considering their wins, amount of bowl games and bowl wins...they have 4 titles.

They should have like 8, maybe 10. I've said this twice now! They are the most underacheiving on that list. Who's more soo? #2 all time wins and bowl apperenaces and only four national titles? Just let that slide off your tounge and think about it.

Hey guys. According to certain logic. Minnesota is a blue blood and should be defeating Alabama in the NCG sometime in the next five years.

The last time was 2007. I told myself never again. I assume things have improved. I certainly hope so.

I doubt that very much. Since 1995 things have been better each year around the campus and stadium. From 06-10 I stayed in the vagabond 2 blocks from the place. I have walk all around that place in the Bucs gear. Granted you dont walk down bad streets, but its not bad.
