The SEC is the only conference where I've seen people argue that a team who has won 4 conference games in 3 years and is coming off a 7-6 season, be argued to be a top 10 team.

I doubt a non-P5 team makes the CFP anytime soon. Boise St was straight up used for an agenda, the CFP had nothing to do with making things better for teams like Boise, the committee is there to make sure it doesn't happen.

It would take an undefeated mid-major, who's won their games convincingly, who's beaten a (9-3)(10-2) type P5 vying for the final slot against a (10-2) P5. Maybe even two (10-2) P5's.
