Mets lit him up on July 4th and he wasn't great in a start vs Boston on the 15th. He's basically treading Quintanta waters, meaning his every 3rd or 4th start is a clunker.

Better than Julio Teheran, who you never know what you're gonna get. If his fastball is between 90-92 and his slider is working, he's pretty good. If his fastball is any harder or slower or if his slider isn't working, he gets lit up like a Christmas tree.

Braves traded for Jonny Venters yesterday.

He hasn't been great, but he's been better than what we've had in middle relief, and it's a good nostalgia piece.

It's a shame injuries derailed his career so much. When he was at his peak, I still say his stuff was better than Kimbrel's. Kimbrel always had better control of his stuff, but when Venters was on, he was unhittable in his day.

Cubs acquired LHP Cole Hamels and cash considerations from the Rangers for RHPs Eddie Butler and Rollie Lacy and a player to be named later.

Jon Heyman of Fancred hears that the Cubs will pick up $5 million of the roughly $14.2 million Hamels is owed between the remainder of his salary this season and next year's buyout. The veteran left-hander got off to a nice start this season but holds a 10.23 ERA over his last five starts. The hope, obviously, is that a move out of Globe Life Park and the American League to a playoff race and the National League will rejuvenate Hamels.

Braves acquired LHP Jonny Venters from the Rays in exchange for $250,000 in international slot money.

This will be a homecoming for Venters, who began his career with Atlanta in 2010. Venters' career looked like it was just about finished after he underwent his third Tommy John surgery, but miraculously, he's made it all the way back. The 33-year-old will work as a lefty specialist out of the Braves' pen.

Mariners acquired RHP Sam Tuivailala from the Cardinals for RHP Seth Elledge.

Tuivailala holds a 3.04 ERA across 74 relief innings over the last two seasons but hasn't missed as many bats (60 strikeouts) as his velocity suggests he should. Still, he's a quality middle relief addition for the Mariners and is under team control through 2022.

I dont think I've seen a trade deadline with as much in division trading. It's not every deal but it seems like more than usual.

Kinda feels weird arguably the least valuable trade asset the Royals had got the best haul, but that seems like the case.

Cardinals acquired LHP Chasen Shreve and RHP Giovanny Gallegos from the Yankees for 1B Luke Voit and international signing bonus pool money.

With Zach Britton now in New York, Shreve became an expendable member of the Yanks' bullpen. The return -- a minor league first baseman and bonus pool money, although it wasn't disclosed how much -- still feels a little light for a reliever who's held down a spot in a very good bullpen, but there's certainly room for interpretation. Shreve holds a 4.26 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 46/18 K/BB ratio through 38 innings of work this year.

White Sox acquired LHP Caleb Frare from the Yankees for international signing bonus pool money.

Frare has been dynamite between Double- and Triple-A this season with a 0.81 ERA and 58/15 K/BB ratio over 44 2/3 innings, but the Yanks don't have room for him and they would've had to add him to their 40-man roster this winter in order to protect him from the Rule 5 Draft. Instead, New York will add more bonus pool money ahead of their expected signing of pitching prospect Osiel Rodriguez and the White Sox will get a quality relief prospect.

Braves trade for Brad Brach from the Orioles in exchange for international money that the Braves couldn't use anyways thanks to our now lifetime banned former GM.

Hopefully a change of scenery will help the dude out, because it looks like we just traded for Baltimore's version of Sam Freeman.
