Well I agree with Tlance that it's self-serving of Jordan.

He says Kobe is better than Lebron because his 5 rings are better than Lebron's 3. This is self serving because if you use that metric to compare Kobe and Lebron, Lebron will never be better than Kobe (likely). At the same time Kobe is universally considered less than Jordan, so Jordan would always be viewed better, especially because their games were similar and they played the same position. It prevents Jordan from ever being compared to Lebron, which from a skill set POV could be argued.

I think James is more a combination of Pippen and MJ than just MJ.

In 20 years time when both players are long retired, the world might think Kobe was the better player purely because of popularity. They'll only look at the stats and see Kobe's 5 vs Lebrons 3

That is the only reason Kobe is ahead now.

Also, I couldn't disagree more about mass opinion. Highly knowledgeable people almost all side with LeBron on this, and MJ is clearly biased.

Kobe's Finals record is better, (Lebron has been a big time loser more or less in this regard) Kobe played in a SUPERIOR, more competitive conference his entire career than Lebron as well (Won 2 ships with less help as well) . I can see why MJ would put Kobe over Lebron.

Lebron needs one more 'ship IMO equal to pass Kobe. And Im not even a Kobe fan so I can state it objectively.

I dont think its just "5 over 3". There are other factors involved.

Kobe was more of a killer than Lebron as well. Can't dispute that one either. Lebron has "Prettier overall stats" so to speak but who cares really. That doesn't mean a whole lot.

You can't overlook Lebron's downright pathetic lazy colluding either over the past 7 years while playing in such a shitty conference.

Its close but Kobe still by a hair. I would still put Shaq/Duncan over Lebron too

So according to you, scoring is the only thing that really matters. Awesome. Let's just ignore everything else LeBron brings to the table. How convenient for Kobe supporters. LeBron has been the consensus best player in the NBA for almost a decade. Kobe was never that. There was always a debate between who was best, whether it be with Duncan or later with LeBron.

LeBron has 4 MVPs which really should be 7 or 8. Kobe has 1 that should be 2-3. There is a fairly sizeable gap in their respective resumes.
