In last night's NFL draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars selected QB Blake Bortles. Later on, the Miami Dolphins selected RT Ja’Wuan James.
That's right...Bortles and James are now officially in the NFL.
Sources tell ESPN that Josh Gordon could face a season-long suspension following a second failed drug test, this time for marijuana.
The Browns can't even bask in their Johnny Manziel glory for 24 hours. Gordon, who was booted off Baylor's football team for failed drug tests, was suspended by the NFL for the first two games of last season after violating the league's substance abuse policy. A second violation can come with a 16-game ban, although the Browns are hoping to get that reduced to 4-6 games on appeal. Regardless, it would be a devastating blow to an offense that was previously trending up. Gordon was fantasy's No. 1 receiver last season, racking up a league-high 1,646 yards and nine touchdowns in 14 games. Cleveland only has Andrew Hawkins, Nate Burleson and Greg Little behind him.
Hey guys. good to see DUB and Duff posting some things. Smoke I don't like the pick. i agree with you. They could have gotten him in the second. I would have liked to see the big wr Kelvin Benjamin there then we could have traded back into the first for OT Cyrus Kouandrjia. Turns out he fell to 12th in the second never thought he would fall that far. Hop everyone is enjoying themselves as much as I am. i am hoping for RB Andre Williams at some point.
Shocked the SF took Hyde. man that is a crowded backfield!
Is it just me, or was the Draft exceptionally anti-climactic? At least in fantasy terms? I mean I honestly don't see any huge difference makers that came out of it. Maybe Sammy Watkins, but honestly I think virtually every rookie next year is going to fall into the "sleeper" type category. There isn't a one that I'm going into next year saying, "I gotta have that guy in my team!"
Watkins with the Stevie Johnson trade, Kelvin Benjamin to Carolina (no other WR's), Margise Lee to Jacksonville (Blackmon out of the picture), Beckham to Giants (as a replacement for Nicks), and my personal favorite to start and make some noise right away - Bishop Sankey to Tennessee. All have some value this year but no more than a third option or bye week filler. In other words, nothing to get overly excited over.
As a footnote - Friggin Josh Gordon ruined my plan in my keeper league - got him in the 9th rd last year. Seriously hurt the outlook of Manziel too. Since the Browns didn't draft any WRs, they must have a trade in mind with someone.
The Browns are expected to field a conservative, run-based offense while Josh Gordon is suspended.
Come Week 1, the Browns could very well start a rookie quarterback with Jordan Cameron, Andrew Hawkins, Nate Burleson (arm), Greg Little, and Charles Johnson as Johnny Manziel's receivers. It's an obvious recipe for OC Kyle Shanahan to ease in Manziel, pound the rock with his zone-blocking scheme, and rely on an underrated defense that should improve under Mike Pettine. Ben Tate is going to get all he can eat, along with Terrance West. Former five-star Georgia running back recruit Isaiah Crowell is a talented Browns UDFA to watch.
Good Lord!!!! As a Browns fan, I can't even enjoy my new draft picks before the bottom drops out of our season. Well, maybe they'll grab a couple more defensive players to add to their stout DEF and will only need a kicker to boot field goals to win their games.
