Yeah I am 100% grasping at straws in my devils advocate role. Stanton and co obviously are thrilled with Jerry otherwise he wouldn’t have gotten the big promotion. I am blind on it cause as a fan I don’t care about revenue so I keep leaving that out when I make my arguments.

I honestly don’t know alot about the other regional networks that are going bankrupt and what their programming is. I know one of the big ones that was going bankrupt owned a fairly big wrestling promotion that had to be sold off. But while it was going down a solid argument that the Mariners are in great position when it comes to that though. And are in amazing position if the Sonics come back….and why I fully expect them to use all the power they can to keep pro baseball out of Portland.

I’m also talking out of my ass pretending I know business and it obviously is a lot more complicated than I am making it out to be as you can see with all of arguments minimizing the profit they are bringing in.
I'm kind of a nerd with this stuff and it's probably a product of having worked for financial institutions my entire life in various roles. I'm also kind of jaded when it comes to corporate America to the extent that it's shocking with my mouth I haven't ever been fired from a job. But as far as making the owners money, Jerry has done an excellent job.

There's a chance you might know more on this than me, so I'll ask you or anyone else who reads this the following question; since Jerry got that promotion, how did his responsibilities change? Was it just a title boost with the same responsibilities? President of Baseball operations just sounds like a sexier version of the GM title.

I am with you on this. Just a bump in title and and pay, but doing the same stuff...screwing up on hitters.

Honestly I have no idea about what his job actually entails. Usually it was guys that weren’t super knowledgeable (or at least came off that way) about the sport just like numbers and deferred everything to the GM. Then it started becoming a title to lure people like how Theo Epstein and how the dudes who were going to bring the Kings to Seattle named Phil Jackson if they moved. I’d assume he overlooks all baseball so like minor leagues and stuff but as a GM he’d get minor leaguer scouting reports everyday. It seems like it should a position that is the final say on anything baseball related but they also have a President of business ops or whatever so it seems like neither could have final say

I can't find where someone mentioned to bring back, N. Cruz... I'm a hard, no on that...43 years old... Definitely has taken a big step back w/ his power... He's really not an option for us imo...

Passan said no because the way Ford has been playing. I am okay with it either way. The yes way is because he can't be worse than Moore or Wong or Pollock. Platoon the DH spot and give France some extra rest during the second half with Ford at first. Not the greatest options, but this is where M's management has left us.

There are just not a whole lot of available offensive upgrades out there that wouldn't cost a prime young player.
Three guys I can think of and they are all with varying degrees of risk:
Jorge Soler
Justin Turner
Cody Bellinger

I say risk because Seattle is a place where hitters come to die and each of those three seem to be the types that would see their production drop off as soon as they put on a Mariner uniform.

And then there is Lane Thomas who might be available, but he would cost more than any of the above three.

Yep that's what I thought as well. At work I see people who have been doing a good job being slapped with a "assistant vice president" title that is completely meaningless lol.

I have a strong feeling that it's essentially just a title boost and another layer of job protection in case someone needs to be held accountable (fired). If the team tanks, they can fire Justin Hollander.

I'm with you here.

Part of me wants to add Cruz, but it just doesn't look like a great fit.

I didn't realize this but the Mariners somehow have 3 first round picks in the upcoming draft and for the most part it looks like they've done a fairly good job drafting and developing. Apparently this is one of the best and deepest drafts in years. Given that draft capital, I wouldn't be surprised if that makes them more inclined to be willing to part with more prospects than we otherwise might have.

The infuriating thing about two of those three options is they could've been fucking signed in the offseason. Despite his numbers I don't know if I'd want Jorge Soler. When you look at his career numbers, they're just all over the fucking place, he looks like the exact type of player who could go from hitting like he is right now to hitting below his weight the second he gets to Seattle.

Lane Thomas is an interesting option. He's 27 and doesn't hit free agency until 2026. Seems like the type of player Seattle would like. I will say it's concerning that his stats this year are quite out of line with his career norms. I think I've reached a point where I try to find any reason why a hitter would regress here because it just happens so damn often.
