Tacoma Rainiers ‏@RainiersLand 8h8 hours ago

Stefen Romero has pelted his team-leading 7th HR of the season into left field. Rainiers now leading Salt Lake in bottom 6th, 4-0.

----------------------

And he can catch fly balls and throw to 2nd w/o missing it by 40 feet.

How much longer are we going to let Montero rot in AAA?

He was once considered one of the best prospects in the game, and he's now in the best shape of his life.

Was he great with the Mariners in his time here? Not at all. But as a hitter, he was statistically better in his 170 games with the Mariners than Dustin Ackley has been over his last 174 games with the Mariners.

Montero (2012-2014): 170 gm 19 HR 73 RBI .251/.291/.378
Ackley (2014-2015): 174 gm 17 HR 72 RBI .237/.281/.387

Meanwhile, Montero was given a very short leash, and has done nothing but earn his way back to the majors while Dustin Ackley has proven that he does not belong. What more can Montero do? He lost 40lbs, he's crushing the ball in AAA, and learned a new position. What has Ackley been doing? Showing no signs of improvement, if anything he has been showing regression. He is a streaky hitter for some reason, but even when you aggregate his stats from his hot streaks and his cold streaks, he's still garbage.

Miller can now play in the OF, the Mariners have been struggling to get production from DH, get rid of Ackley and call up Montero.

Can't disagree. Bring him him and let him sink or swim or just deal him while he has value.

Rainiers roll out to an early 2-0 lead over Vegas in the 1st thanks to Stefen Romero's 2-R HR - his team-leading eighth of the season.

I know you like Romero, but for the life of me I can't figure out why.

Last year he was complete and utter shit in the major leagues, despite getting off to a better start. Through 36 games last year he had 12 HRs, .358/.387/.669, which is significantly better than he's doing this year.

Romero is just now about to get to the 2000 pro AB mark. That's where you typically start seeing what players are capable of long-term. I think M's fans just don't understand it because we've brought up so many guys way earlier than a good club would.

And I don't see NW advocating anything regarding Romero, actually. It's the minor league thread, and he's doing good things.

Thank you and you are correct.

What cezero said already, but if you want to ask me if I would rather have a young guy who could actually improve or an old guy who was done years ago, well that is an easy one. For the record, I would rather have Stanton in my OF, but like many on here thought 3 years ago that giving up 4 or 5 top prospects back then for him would have just been crazy.

Ah, fair enough. I had just seen these posts and for some reason remembered you saying in the past that you liked him.

I did like him last spring training and was glad they gave him a shot. He didn't succeed so they sent him back and that was the right move. Does that mean I have given up on him? No. Like cezero said, he is just coming up on 2000 MiLB AB's so maybe he has changed. Remember Raul when he left M's for KC? He went from 5th OF to solid contributor for another decade or so.

I never saw him as an All-Star, but I never thought he could be worse than those cheap veteran signings either (Hart, Weeks, etc).

I am listening to the Blaze game today. Ryan Yarbrough getting the start today against High Desert. I looked up his numbers from his last start, he went like 2 innings with 6 runs 0 earned runs.

Austin Wilson with an RBI single in the first.

Yarbrough gives up 3 in the first. The announcer has mentioned a few times that it seems Yarbrough melts down when he gets into trouble and looses focus. At least that is what he has observed a few times this season.
