Watch Smart pull the race card out. He will use it as an excuse even if it's not what the guy said.

There's no excuse for what he did no matter what the guy said.

there is a fat black lady right behind the guy. id love to hear what she has to say

I only have 3 thoughts so far:

-I want to know what the fan said

-The refs should have ejected him and should be punished for not doing so

-It was spur of the moment, but TT really needs to do a better job at keeping students in the stands. Given what happened, there's no way a court storming should have been allowed. Things could have been a lot worse

I won't trust whatever Smart says when he gets asked what the fan said. Considering he said "I'm not the only one that flops" to deflect that question I'm sure he will do whatever it takes to cover himself up after this incident.

So in your world....a old rich white guy sitting court side in a contested game call say anything to this 19 year old kid and it is ok? The fan should have been thrown out if there was any quest as to what went on....these are kids...the fans is the dick for spouting off and starting the whole thing.

It only matters what the fan's race is if what was said is racist. So until we hear that the comment was racist, we might not want to necessarily jump to conclusions.

Hell, for all we know, it could have been something extremely mild that just sent Smart off the deep end. And in which case, Smart definitely needs to know that he can't go around shoving fans. It's just not going to fly.

If the fan said something like "Not in our house." or something like that, it could very well have set him off. Fans hold signs up that are less sensitive. Obviously the foul was out of frustration to begin with. Obviously, the turnover that led to the fast break was essentially the final blow, so the emotions of the loss were catching up to him.

Again, neither of us have any idea what was said. I just think that automatically categorizing the comments as coming from a white guy, or that he should have automatically have been tossed are pretty hasty conclusions.

Fans say some pretty horrible things to players every game across the country, and to every race. And players need to keep their actions on the court. And although I don't think that fans should get free rein to say whatever they like, unfortunately, a player shoving a fan is not going to bode well for the player. That's just never acceptable. Now if it comes out that people heard a very personal attack on smart and an offensive remark, then by all means, throw the book at the fan. But we have no idea what was said either way.

As a player you should block out anything said by a fan nearby court side. That is instilled in pee wee leagues much less major college athletics. There is nothing that warrants a player putting his hands on a fan. Marcus Smart looks frustrated instead of provoked.

I think storming the court shouldn't be allowed anywhere but it is. since it is allowed it shouldn't be stopped because a moron on the other team overreacts. that's on ok st coaching staff for not getting him out of there sooner.

CTP never said anything of the sort about it being ok. The players are held to a higher standard. You don't know what the fan said, now is not the time to make assumptions.

I don't know if they stormed the court at the end of the game or not, but I'm not sure what that has to do with Smart being off the court... past the cheerleaders, past the row of cameramen and photogs... and into the actual stands.... while the game is still going on.

The angle on the CBS video is a little weird and it's jooked in pretty tight, but from what I can tell, it looks like Smart is about 15" from the edge of the court. That's a looooooong way past where he should be.

Not sure why people are saying we need to wait to hear what the fan said, fans never say nice things to visiting teams, and they're just words. Physical altercations are never justified, I mean come on, he shoved someone's grandpa....

I watched it live in real time. He was on the bench when the game was over and the fans stormed the court. It could have been a lot worse if he or the Cowboys team was confronted by hundreds. Somehow he managed to get escorted safely into the locker room area. The Officials failed to eject him from the arena. He only received a Technical Foul from my perspective.

I do agree that if the fan said some pretty foul shit, that there should be consequences. But that is separate from the fact that Smart should never have shoved the fan, regardless of what the fan said. Like you said, physical altercations are never justified. It's not like the coach, AD, or university are ever going to condone that, regardless of what the fan said. But again, separately, if the fan lodged an attack at Smart that was clearly uncalled for, then I don't have a problem with the fan getting in trouble for his comments. Fans have to show sportsmanship too.

The Big12 is going to make an example out of Smart. How many games do you think he'll be suspended?

Again, not excusing Smart at all, but check out the fan at the 35 second mark from another game. A real piece of work this guy. This was posted on an NBA board regarding Smart flopping, but concerning this altercation.
