I'm sure you all thought the same thing after the 1988 title. How'd that work out for ya?

If I had known then how BAD a coach Rick Pitino was back then I wouldn't have been very optimistic.

Pitino left no doubt that his recruiting ability was at the core of his college success.

Our present coach DOES know a thing or two about teaching the game!

:laugh3::laugh3: Gotta love C's fans. I can remember when you were all screaming for Ainge's head. Then McHale gifts him KG and suddenly he's Jerry West? Thanks for the laugh!!:laugh3::laugh3:

On July 31, 2007, Garnett was traded to the Boston Celtics in exchange for Al Jefferson, Ryan Gomes, Sebastian Telfair, Gerald Green, Theo Ratliff, cash considerations, Boston's 2009 first-round draft pick (top 3 protected), and the 2009 first-round pick which Minnesota had traded to Boston in the Ricky Davis-Wally Szczerbiak trade of 2006. The 7-for-1 deal constitutes the largest number of players traded for a single player in league history

Jim doors nice reminder of that deal. He gave up lots of assets. Good to see a historian who knows how these past teams were made. Seems like few posters do.

Nobody in Boston ever were screaming for his head. We know what a bad GM and ownership group is/was. Your experiencing that now but you struggle to see it.

And that is why I had to chuckle when this thread started.

That's a load of crap and you know it. Prior to the KG trade, Ainge was on the hot seat and C's fans were screaming for his head. Other C's fans on here and at cbs have admitted as much.

And what we're seeing now is a team that is clearing cap space for the future. The Lakers will be just fine. I have serious doubts about the C's.

Wow!! Pitino was such a crappy coach that he destroyed the Celtics before he even got there then. After all, it was what? 20 years between championships?

Your present coach is still Brad Stevens, right?

The list of players traded says it all, McHale gifted KG to Ainge and the C's. Please feel free to continue proving my point.

Al Jefferson became a 20/10 guy . Those guys are rare in the league. But i will say Gomes really was disappointment . Celts gave up picks too. But most importantly they only did the deal if Garnett would sign a long term deal.

Smart stuff

How much of a laugh did TLF get out of seeing the Celtics hustle ALL GAME LONG and beat a team that came in 7 1/2 games ahead of them?

Does he need a crying towel now?

CELTICS WIN !!!

WITHOUT RONDO!!!

Yep and they got 1 title out of all those years. Bravo!!

And one guy panned out (and not at the KG level). Like I said, KG was a gift from McHale to Ainge.

Correct.

I'd never heard of Stevens before he got the job but I like what I've seen so far.

I would not say a gift but yes, Danny made a amazing great deal. It's not something you can expect from every GM, and lakers fans never could imagine Mitch pulling off these deals.

Instead of being jealous start by getting rid of the fools running the show in la. There has to be GM talent that the lakers could get that could pull off similar deals.

That said, all these great deals did require Danny to accumulate assets. The next GM in la has to start with that first. Who will that be ?
