Whoops, just posted then saw your post blue......I'm a little late because I was still listening to how Seattle traded with the Saints to get Jimmy Graham and then the Nada trade was announced.....Big moves happening today.....Hopefully Detroit didn't give up too much.

Austin obviously wanted him and I'd think it's kind of clear, now without Suh, we'll be going to a 3-4 base

The Baltimore Ravens traded defensive tackle Haloti Ngata to the Detroit Lions on Tuesday, the Ravens confirmed.

Terms of the trade were not disclosed.

The Lions get their replacement for Ndamukong Suh, who was expected to sign with the Miami Dolphins after the 4 p.m. ET start to free agency, and the Ravens free up $8.5 million of much-needed cap space. Ngata had a team-high $16 million cap figure.

The Ravens were attempting to sign Ngata to an extension, but the sides never got close to a deal.

BB_72 : he has this 1 last yr on his contract for 8.5M....

Bittersweet about this one. I like Ngata. I don't like the 3-4 for us. Hopefully Van Noy is a good OLB to play opposite of Ziggy.

yes it does give us a multitude of options... it isn't all bad, IMO, but we'll have to wait and see all other moves

Fuck yes!

And BigBlue, I wouldn't read this as us switching to a 3-4... Ngata can play both inside spots in the 4-3 pretty well. Baltimore runs/ran a fair amount of 4 man fronts in his day. I think the best defenses in today's NFL run multiple/hybrid fronts anyhow...

If we re-sign Fairley to pair with him we still might have the best pair of DTs in the league this season, even after losing the best one...

Hope we didn't give too much in our vulnerable Suh-breakup rebound state. The guy is 31. He and Baltimore were far apart on terms. I'm almost afraid to see the details.

I cant imagine that we gave up much here. Ravens were likely to cut him in cap savings move and its certainly possible this may end up being only a one year stay given that he and the Ravens couldn't even come close on an extension. Either they are cheap or he was looking to cash in on the DT bonanza set up by the recent contracts of Suh, Watt, and McCoy.

My guess is no more than a 5th rd pick and my personal prediction is a 6th.

1 thing I will say is, Mayhew hadn't better have given up any high draft picks or I'll be pissed
hopefully it comes back that it was a 5th or lower.

I'm glad we made a move for a DT, finally, so not to sound negative, but a 4th and 5th rounder is kinda rich for a 31 year old player due to make $8.5 mil and a $2.5 million bonus option. Can someone clarify his salary as of right now? Is it $11 million cap hit, or just the $8.5? or something different?

I would be ok even with a 4th, but my guess is a 5th
