but a 4th and 5th rounder is kinda rich for a 31 year old player due to make $8.5 mil and a $2.5 million bonus option

Where are you seeing that we gave up a 4th and 5th rd pick??

4th and a 5th. 31 years old on a 1 year 8.5 million dollar deal.

4th and a 5th is a bit steep if we can't get him signed beyond this year. If we can work out an extension, then a 4th and a 5th are not too bad for a top-end starting DT, especially if one pick is this year and the other is next...

Its a good move. Bring back Fairley and everything looks better. Its a 4th OR a 5th.

If we get 3 good years as a starter out of him that's likely more than the two picks would have netted...

And BigBlue, I wouldn't read this as us switching to a 3-4... Ngata can play both inside spots in the 4-3 pretty well. Baltimore runs/ran a fair amount of 4 man fronts in his day. I think the best defenses in today's NFL run multiple/hybrid fronts anyhow...

yeah. I get all of that. same goes for CFB scheme's as well..... oh wait.... I'm totally clueless :rolleyes2:

I'm not excited to swap Suh AND Fairley for Ngata minus two draft picks. Sign Fairley long term and I'd like it more.

Hopefully it is not both a 4th and 5th. Especially for just a 1 year deal. Granted the 8.5 mil is pretty comfortable. I was thinking it would be closer to 10 mil.

Thats better and what I was expecting. I am good with this one. Would have liked it to be 2 years with an option though

Typical Lions move, giving away draft picks like candy. There are Baltimore news articles from yesterday and this morning speculating that Ngata was going to be released. Mayhew just became their Santa Claus.

*If it's just one draft pick (5th round, hopefully), then I retract my critique. Thought I read it was 2.

Keeping Tullouch now makes more sense that that the 3-4 is a strong possiblity.

Typical Jayfan response. If there's something negative to be said about his "favorite" team, you can bet he's all over it. If there's something positive to be said about them, though, you can bet he's nowhere to be found.

I think the Lions could trade a 7th round pick for Brady, Gronk, and the ghost of Vince Lombardi, and you'd still find something to bitch about...

Hopefully it is not both a 4th and 5th

If it is that is definitely a sign of desperation on the part of Mayhew. Ravens knew we were screwed and exploited it.

I would rather have him than not but unless they announce a very reasonable new deal that comes with this trade then its not a good value for us and does nothing to improve the standing of Millenhew as a competent GM.

sTop, Everything I'm seeing says 4th AND a 5th rounder. That's from multiple sources. Where did you see a 4th OR 5th?

1. Not so. I've made positive posts.

100% agree. I'm glad we have him. But a 4th and 5th rounder seems desperate.
