Sorry. I thought everyone had no interest.

I'm always interested in the horses. Granted, I don't follow them as much being down in Timbuktu but I still watch most of pre-Derby races. Donn Handicap, Derbies for the following Fla., Ark, La, Wood, Bluegrass, Santa Anita.

I did watch the Travers and Withers stakes.

8/19 he ran a personal best 85 speed figure (83 in his win) which was good enough for 6th, 8 1/4 lengths back.
9/24 I cut him back to a mile, allowance NW2L, field of 14. 22-1 again. Finished 12th, 12 lengths back.

Allowance company is brutal. I'll probably try 10 and 12 furlongs. If no improvement, will probably start running in claimers. Might try dirt again at some point.

So, was it mostly moving up to non winners other than in Allowance or was there a turf issue with it being soft or yielding.

He should be able to run all day long coming out of Sadler's Wells and Blushing groom. an 85 and 83 Beyer rating, honestly, isn't bad at all. I know it's not Graded stakes level upper 90's and lower 100's.

Running in a field of 14 can be problematic for such a young horse. That's a long time to enter into a gate and not being bothered others around him.

It was moving up to allowance company. The turf was firm.

I hope you're right about the breeding. Sometimes more distance is all they need, but I don't get my hopes up until they show it.

As much as you seem to love horse racing, you should open a stable of your own.

as much as I know....ppffffttttttt... you got way more knowledge than me, FOG..... wayyyyy more...

I'm just under the belief, going on memory here, that Blushing Groom and Sadler's Wells both had quite a few mile and 1/4 and mile and 3/8 runs under their belts. Now Opera House, once again going on memory, had limits once got up to mile and 1/16. I'm talking about performing better. I'd have to research that though.

I used to hang out at the old Stardust in Vegas, when it was in existence, Wednesday thru Sunday, with my previous nights purchase of DRF, studying from 7 a.m. PST until 9 a.m. PST for the East Coast tracks. It didn't matter what tracks, Belmont, Saratoga, Aqueduct, Pimlico, Gulfstream, La. Downs, Churchill, Arlington, Turfway Park, Golden Gate, Santa Anita, Del Mar, Hollywood Race Park when it was in existence.

I'm available for feedings, washings and shit shoveling, that's probably my limit. I'm worthless after any of that.

I seriously doubt that I have more knowledge than you, for this reason. I'm always looking at the big picture. Never been much of a detail guy.

For instance, I learned to win at betting the ponies by implementing superior money management. I couldn't handicap a race to save my life.

I just figured you might enjoy it, if for no other reason, than being able to study the tens of thousands of sires. That, and being able to talk horse racing with people that can give you a better discussion than I can. Also, you can play for free.

But I can tell you that Sadler's Wells is quite the heavyweight when it comes to throwing distance runners. Too bad he passed away, but he can still be used as a damsire. Ranked #5 I believe.

that's what took me 1.5 years to learn in sports handicapping and probably 3+ years in horse handicapping. I would bet 6-7 races out of a 9-race card (weekday) and 7 or 8 races on a weekend card of 10/11 races (usually had a 3-5 stakes races on some days. It was addictive for me but then I met an older man, probably 30 years my senior, that had sat me down and said, "you're pretty doggone good at handicapping if you just limit your bets and get the hell up and out of here when you hit big for that day. I couldn't even begin to tell how many $24 (4 horse box- $1) I had won that were huge payouts only to lose half that back in exacta boxes (2-3 horses $100- $200 each way) and lose. I found my niche in Turf races. I was solid back then. I learned from that old man and became profitable at it.

I had purchased a couple Dam/Sire books while living out in Vegas and I studied those like nothing else mattered. I just loved the history behind the horses and how their foals performed at various distances or even at a singular track. Sometimes it was a combination of track, trainer, jockey and distance.

I don't have the brain for it anymore as far as retaining knowledge.

No big girls were hurt in the making of this post.

I grew up at Rosecroft. Learned a lot there and watching my dad go to OTB sites. Meadowlands, Ocean Downs, Balmoral were some tracks I had success with as wee lad. He taught me so well, he quit taking me. Always feared I would lose some house payments like him. Weird part was he lost his winnings at a casino not the track.

I suck otherwise. Them thoroughbreds break me.
