NCAA prez asks schools to consider more than money - ESPN

But it is a business. He can't possibly be so naive

INDIANAPOLIS -- As a growing number of schools play musical chairs with conferences, NCAA president Mark Emmert says he is concerned about the perception that money is driving the decisions and declared "this is not the NFL, the NBA, it's not a business."

Instead, Emmert is urging school presidents to consider factors besides revenue when choosing conference affiliation.

"I think what came across (with realignment) is that all we care about is money and what we can do that is to our advantage," Emmert said in an interview Wednesday with The Associated Press. "Nobody was talking about what this is going to do for student-athletes or intercollegiate athletic programs. It was all about let's make a deal."

At least somebody in the "business" finally said it.

I think he believes what he said.... He just has no power or authority over conferences.

yeah, NOBODY believes that. The NCAA has NEVER been about the "student-athlete" they've always been about the money they can make OFF of those student athletes.

There isn't a degree in the world that generates the income those athletes do for those schools. His own organization just signed a 9 billion dollar contract for the NCAA tourney, so him talking about business is just moronic.

His organization can't profit from that money. It just sits around in an emergency fund(this is a small %), and the rest gets redistributed back to the thousands of NCAA teams in order to help perpetuate athletics....or it goes back into funding the hundreds of championships held every year.

That's a crock and you know it. His salary surely is profit for him, who cares if the organization makes a profit or not. They all still get PAID.

Ya. I'm sure everybody's salary is huge. Gotta make sure they collect billions of dollars so they can pay themselves.

Look it up. The MAJORITY of the money goes back to the athletics.

The NCAA funds many events and that money is well spent to continue to entertain us.

The people who run the NCAA are just like any other top corporate elite. They make 6 figure salaries with bonus's exceeding their pay to 7 figures.

You think they want to change the status quo? His statement is embarrassing in the fact that its just now coming out. Really? Took them that long to figure all this realingment was about the money?
