Last year of that contract extension he signed in 2011 is next year. He is due:

2015 - $7.7 million

He is making $6.8 million this year. One of my favorites (but not so much of the board) but he seems to be a shell of himself and, obviously, does not justify that salary.

I'm a big fan of Leon Hall. I've been a big fan since he's been here.

That said, those numbers you throw out there are crazy. I don't think you can pay him 7 million next year for the production that he is currently capable of..... Especially when you have two first rounders playing on the punt team. Time to see what you got with the kids.

I'd favor going with Jones, Dennard and Swag. Maybe pick up another vet in FA or try to renegotiate Hall (though we never do that).

I don't know if it's reflective of how he's played all year but he got torched by a rookie WR yesterday for 90+ on a single play. He wasn't even in the same zip code.

It was just a go route so maybe he thought he had help over the top or something? :noidea:

For whatever reason he let Bryant to untouched. Ben's like, "Um...OK....well, if you're not going to cover him...".

Since you are so attuned into Big Ben, perhaps you can fill us in our his current mindset and what he had for dinner tonight?

I like Hall, but let's face it, he's a glorified slot CB, and has been for several years. Even when Zim was here, with 3 WR sets, he was in the slot with Newman and Jones on the outside.

Have to agree at this point, you might look at cutting him for some cap savings (if any) and allow the young guys to finally shine.

Also, I agree, it's odd that he didn't even try to bump the WR with no help over top, but my guess is, he was guessing on the play and got burnt. He simply gave up once he got by him because he knew he had 0% chance of catching him unless he fell down.

Even the best get burned from time to time.

I was just wondering why he never bumped him coming off the line. I thought that was pretty much standard to do to the fastest WR on the field.

Hall has been declining all year. He's had numerous lapses in coverage. Sunday was just the biggest.

so do linebackers, college quarterbacks, and wide receivers with stone hands.

I'm a fan of making your below average defensive tackle a fullback..... That's a winning strategy.

Things that aggrivate me:

When CB's have no help over top, yet they don't position themselves to protect against the deep pass. Good QB's notice when they have 1-1 matchups pre-snap (as Ben did here). If you don't back up a few, or bump the WR off the line, you've got little chance to make a play.

Secondly, when blitzing, you can't have your CB's 10 yards off the WR...again, a simple bump buys that extra second the blitzer needs to get to the QB, and takes away the quick/hot-route. If you are worried about being burned then either don't blitz, or have a cover-2-Man, with man coverage underneath and safety help over top...I think DC's make defense too hard sometimes.
