Whom do we lose to get him ? See the issue is you blow draft picks and you burn cap .It's going to cost two #1 draft picks (this year and next) plus the cost of a guaranteed contract, probably in the 265 -267M range. Should our team be seriously active in pursuing Lamar Jackson?
Absolutely! Jeff Bezos, come on down! It's going to cost two #1 draft picks (this year and next) plus the cost of a guaranteed contract, probably in the 265 -267M range. Should our team be seriously active in pursuing Lamar Jackson?
This is a rob Peter to pay Paul league, and everyone knows it! It is also a QB-dependent, offensive-leaning league. Perhaps it's time to get away from stockpiling the defensive side of the ball in favor of the side that going to win you Super Bowls. (Another reason why I was not in favor of the Rivera hire) That said, perhaps it is time to get creative when doing these escalating contracts. Here's an excerpt from an article that I read about Patrick Mahomes.Whom do we lose to get him ? See the issue is you blow draft picks and you burn cap .
how is this defense going to look like without sweat Payne young and Kurl ?
lamar has one playoff win he has played only 1 full season , has missed the ends of the last 2 yrs
the flip side is he is a former MVP , all pro and has a 45 - 16 record
can he win a superbowl next yr with us ? Because what this team will be in the future won’t be good

my question should have been more in depth , is lamar jackson the guy who can carry us to superbowls . ? now the way his contract is set up is key to signing him . lamar is asking for 230 mil plus guaranteed not the 141 mil that mahomes hasThis is a rob Peter to pay Paul league, and everyone knows it! Here's an excerpt from an article that I read about Patrick Mahomes.
Patrick Mahomes contract details
At the time of signing his deal in September 2020, Mahomes' total contract value sat up to $502.631 million over 12 years — if he hits all of his incentives.
The base value of his contract, including the next two seasons before his extension kicks in, is $477.631 million for an average of $39.8 million per year. Starting in 2022, Mahomes will make an average of $45 million per year.
The total cash each year is made up of Mahomes' base salary, roster bonus, and workout bonus, not including signing bonus pay and incentives (all values per Spotrac):
Mahomes' cap hit will peak in 2027, when the QB's deal counts for $59.95 million against the Chiefs' salary cap. Below is the breakdown of Mahomes' cap hit in each year of the contract. The figures include Mahomes' $10 million signing bonus spread over the next five seasons.
Year Total cash Base salary Roster bonus Workout bonus 2020 $10.825 million $825,000 N/A N/A 2021 $22.807 million $990,000 $21.717 million $100,000 2022 $29.45 million $1.5 million $27.4 million $550,000 2023 $40.45 million $5.5 million $34.4 million $550,000 2024 $37.95 million $2.5 million $34.9 million $550,000 2025 $41.95 million $2.5 million $38.9 million $550,000 2026 $41.95 million $2.5 million $38.9 million $550,000 2027 $59.95 million $10 million $49.4 million $550,000 2028 $44.45 million $13 million $30.9 million $550,000 2029 $44.95 million $20.5 million $23.9 million $550,000 2030 $50.45 million $27 million $22.9 million $550,000 2031 $52.45 million $38 million $13.9 million $550,000
Mahomes' incentives are simple. Each year starting in 2022, he can earn $1.25 million if the Chiefs reach the Super Bowl and an additional $1.25 million if he is named NFL MVP for a maximum of $2.5 million per year in incentives.
Year Mahomes cap hit 2020 $5.347 million 2021 $24.807 million 2022 $31.45 million 2023 $42.45 million 2024 $39.95 million 2025 $41.95 million 2026 $41.95 million 2027 $59.95 million 2028 $44.45 million 2029 $44.95 million 2030 $50.45 million 2031 $52.45 million
Which means in order for Mahomes to the full $502.631 million his 10-year contract extension offers, he needs to lead Kansas City to the Super Bowl as the league MVP in every season for a full decade.
Patrick Mahomes guaranteed money
Mahomes' contract features $141.428 million in guarantees over 12 years, including a $63.082 million signing bonus.
That $63.082 million includes Mahomes' signing bonus, his base salary for the next three years, and his 2021 and 2022 roster bonuses. Which means Mahomes' contract essentially will be a year-to-year deal starting in 2023.
After the 2025 season, Mahomes can be cut with no dead cap penalty.

really?I would rather have Howell then G. Smith or Danny dimes...
Because Howell is the next Dan Marino PDay....you know the drill here.really?
what did Howell show you against Dallas last game that has you saying this?
I find it absolutely astounding that on a board that represents itself as all-in on a particular team, there's so little support for that team to do what's necessary in order to do well.my question should have been more in depth , is lamar jackson the guy who can carry us to superbowls . ? now the way his contract is set up is key to signing him . lamar is asking for 230 mil plus guaranteed not the 141 mil that mahomes has
now i cant tell you that lamar isnt pulling a KC and making the price so outlandish because he doesnt want to be a raven much like KC being a christian couldnt take the the sex trafficking of our FO
so far i see some potential that lamar might carry a team to a superbowl but he hasnt done that yet so the question is do you put all your eggs in this basket ?
really?

Yeah, having the best QB in the division and probably the conference is a bridge too far for a lot of folks. We're not used to it and dammit, that whole winning thing is simply overrated!sure, why not?
Put a motivated Jackson with the skins and you likely become division favorites. This team is like Dallas, just win with playoff advancement should be the only thing that matters.

sty i am asking questions , remember i am not the fan i was now then when i was a redskins fan . i am more of an interested party and it will be that way till snyder is gone and then i might commit my heart to this team . but i had it broken once alreadyI find it absolutely astounding that on a board that represents itself as all-in on a particular team, there's so little support for that team to do what's necessary in order to do well.

The team should be giving a long look at Fields IMO. As Skinsdad has stated, we probably cannot do much at this point even if we wanted to.
Howell might turn out to be a Pro Bowler, but I have not seen nearly enough to even be confident in him as a starter for the team. Time will tell. Hopefully...he is the chosen one...LOL
That being said, Geno or Jones are more experienced and better QBs than Howell at this time.
