The Los Angeles Lakers have agreed to terms with free agent center Chris Kaman on a one-year deal, according to sources with knowledge of the deal.

Kaman's deal is valued at the Lakers' mini mid-level exception amount of just under $3.2 million, sources told ESPNLosAngeles.com's Ramona Shelburne.

Sources told ESPN.com that the Lakers pressed hard to complete a deal with Kaman over the weekend to ensure they have a quality starting center in the wake of Dwight Howard's departure, without impacting their projected 2014 salary-cap space.

Kaman, 31, struggled through an injury-plagued campaign with the Dallas Mavericks this past season, averaging 10.5 points and 5.6 rebounds in 66 games.

LOL, Stiffman.

But the tide is turning in LA towards the Clippers IMO.

Did anyone watch that segment on NNL? Jemele Hill made a good point about the Lakers "tanking" for next years draft. Plus all the cap space they have. It also wouldn't be a bad idea to have Bryant take as long as he needs to fully recover.

I thought his nickname was Chris Caveman. A good offensive player that can't stay healthy and isn't that good at defense...he should fit in fine on the Lakers

Solid pickup. Really think about it. Dude is slightly better than your average stiff.

Its not a bad pickup because it fills a need and its only 1 year so they can go into the year after that only worrying about Nash's contract.

What is the over/under on number of games Nash, Kaman and Kobe all play together? I'm guessing 12

still, luckily it IS only for one season, thank goodness. gotta protect next season's cap money...
Thats what makes it even better. Plus if he is over his injuries he just might surprise. He is has some skills besides just being big.

Got fill that roster and can't teach size - consider him a steady journeyman unless he keeps getting injured then no harm signing him to fill center spot.

Kaman is a good add and the Lakers needed him after Dwight's departure. Tobad Houston won't trade Asik. Kaman wasn't healthy last year so you can't look at last year's numbers and judge him from those.

After Kobe's contract finally expires the Lakers should be able to sign anybody they want on down the road.

The CAVEMAN is coming to the City of Angels. How ironic.
