Not going to continue to bid against themselves. If there is a real counter-offer, the Lakers will consider it. Simple.

When we factor time into account, the Lakers aren't really bidding against themselves.

They are bidding against the clock and the great possibility that other suitors will be to offer better in the very near future.

I think if the Pels are smart, they ask for everything the Lakers have offered plus four #1's and four #2's, then kick back and wait for the phone call at the deadline. It will be coming

Exactly. If he makes it past the deadline, he won't be traded to the Lakers this summer..If the Pels want the Lakers offer, they will take it now. The Lakers won't be able to sweeten it any more in June

The Pels can literally just toy with them, which is basically what they are doing. They can get better offers in the offseason and are going to rebuild regardless, no rush.

This move isn't without risk though.

If Kyrie walks, Ainge doesn't offer all the goods and the Knicks pick is say #4,

Then the Pelicans might wish they had made a deal with the Lakers.

No move is without risk... fundamental rule of economics.

There are still better decisions and worse decisions... waiting is pretty obviously the better bet, IMO.

I agree.

They should wait.

At the same time though, every day AD is on the roster he loses trade value unless the team getting him can resign him.

Do you think LeBron messed it up with his comments? The owner after that came out with a statement that is not treating Davis. Period. When players can talk to each other, I don’t understand the benefit to making any comment publicly.

Now, I feel like the amount he’s asking for is just to act like he is looking for something but to make sure he doesn’t actually trade Davis. Of course, this was before the trade request.

If it weren’t for Boston, maybe he wouldn’t do this. But when you do have an offer coming later, it makes it easier to try to back up your original comments.

I heard on the radio someone saying that the reason why they won’t take the Lakers offer now is because they don’t think that offer will be off the table in the off-season. Then you would get to suitors for basically the same offer or more.

In the NBA... where the value of a bonafide superstar is basically priceless... I think the value loss you're talking about is minimal.

Who would you rather have? Lonzo ball and the rest of the lakers trash and a worthlessly high 1st round pick, or Tatum a legit star with playoff experience and 4 1st round picks from the Celtics. It's an obvious choice.

Umm....yeah...Who carried the Cavs to the Finals last year?
Love? nope he was injured.
Larry Nance?
Tristan Thompson?
JR Smith?

This is hilarious coming from a GS fan.
Sorry. I can't stand James and I want him reduced to insignificance on a sorry team like L.A. I love to see all the mueling sycophants at ESPN whining because their idol doesn't have a team. No one's fault but James' that other good players don't want to play with him.

Lakers need to give a lot of picks. They have good players but nothing you can’t find in FA. They need to give 4 first rounders. And IMO they will

Is that the right move? Don’t think so but where they are now is average team duldrums, and it’s been this way for years
