The problem is, on the rare occasion that trades get voided, it's when a physical reveals an undisclosed or unknown injury. In this case, everyone knew about IT's hip, so the Cavs had plenty of opportunity to practice due diligence before agreeing to a trade.

Just cause the Cavs knew he had a hip injury doesn't mean there wasn't a surprise during the physical.

We have no idea how the medical records that the Celtics had and gave to the Cavs might or might not have differed from what the Cavs doctors found on the new physical. Absolutely zero idea.

Again, IT was hurt back in may. A lot can happen to an injury and to the plan going forward for an injury in 3 months.

If there is a specific problem, shouldn't Cleveland be forthright and address it openly?

Openly with who? The public? No way, there are HIPAA rules against that.

The Celtics? Sure, but not until they decide internally how the finding affects what they want to do. If they just want to void it, no need to talk to the Celtics. If they ultimately decide to go through with it - no need to talk to the celtics. If they want to re-work the deal because of it - then yeah, they'd obviously need to talk to the Celtics.

I've also said that he's one of my favorite players to watch,. Considering it's a guard driven league, he could not be a top 6 point guard and still be a top 20 player in the league.

Considering what has happened with a couple of others and how he has played, I'd have him 4th or 5th now.

Look at the chart at the bottom of this article: Do The Celtics Have Enough Star Power To Win a Title? Not Yet.

which players ahead of him aren't better players?

Hint: None.

IT has now spoken out on the subject... and he has declared that no doctor has ever told him anything other than he would be back early next season. IT further states "he has no idea what [Cleveland} is doing"

That's an inaccurate quote. Actually... I noticed that IT specifically didn't put a timeline on it. He didn't say anything about being back early next season.

All of his statements were that he'll be back and be the same player and that it won't end his career. Nothing about next season. The only thing he said about this season is that "maybe I won't be back as soon this season as everyone wants".

Considering this is a potential 1 year rental... whether or not his career is over isn't so much the issue with the cavs - its whether he'll be able to contribute this season.

True, my point is that the Cavs should have had the hip checked out prior to agreeing to the trade. Especially since they knew about the injury. They should have demanded that they get the chance to have his hip checked before they agreed to the trade.

From the way it looks, it looks like they knew about the injury, waited until they agreed to a trade before having it checked out and then started dragging their feet.

Curry, Wall, Harden, RW

I think Kyrie is better than Lillard or Lowry.

the toughest one is CP3...if CP3 is healthy- id rather have CP3 for THIS season. Long term- of courses youd rather have Kyrie.

Is Giannis a point guard? Some would say yes- he plays the position- others would say no based on his height.

being objective- if someone argued he was 5th best behind curry, wall, harden and rw- i think that would be a defensible position.

I could see some morons saying Lillard or Lowry are better- and thats kind of defensible- but not really--- at least in my book.

Giannis and CP3 are both tough calls.

I honestly am not sure if that's even possible, but I kind of doubt it.

They would have had to request that the Celtics do another physical with IT and report those findings. But IT would be under no obligation to do that during his off-season.

The only reason he had to do the physical with the Cavs is because the CBA states that players have 1 week (during the off-season) to report for a physical following a trade agreement.

Yet for many days... Cleveland failed to make any negotiations with Boston. It has been reported that no additional claim for compensation had been made.

Cleveland literally just dragged their feet and various leaks came out about their "concern", while various leaks were made suggesting additional compensation should be had.

Now, reports are that IT is not any more or less injured than we already knew him to be.

I understand you want to defend your team... but things look pretty bad for Cleveland at this point in time.

this is pretty funny in retrospect

Russell and Exum?

In the West:

CP3
Russell Westbrook
Steph Curry
Damien Lillard
Mike Conley

In the East:

Kyle Lowry
John Wall

When all is said and done, Russell and Exum may pass him too. Although I'm starting to wonder about Exum.

Just on a quick glance:

Thomas, Conley, Beal, DeRozan, Lillard, Heyward and Griffin are not better than Kyrie.

LOL.

They are and it's not even close. Jesus.

dragged their feet?

dude- its the middle of August and the two teams are completing one of the biggest trades in NBA history between teams that just played in the EAstern Conference Finals....

relax. No trades for 2 guys that both scored over 25 points in a season have ever happened before. I mean- this is one of the biggest NBA trades in the last couple decades.

I would imagine bigger NBA trades HAVe occurred---- i just cant think of one right now...

can you?

Again, you are suggesting that IT might not be able to contribute this season.

Again, as has been told to you already several times this thread, there is no evidence or even reason to believe that IT might miss the season. None. That is just wild speculation by mostly Cleveland fans, trying to somehow defend their team.

If IT is back this season in time to warm up for the playoffs (as all reports have suggested, as Boston has suggested, as IT has suggested, as now Cleveland all but admits)... that is plenty valuable to a Cleveland club that is focused on the playoffs and winning a championship.

If it came down to getting a deal done. I'm pretty sure it is. Unlike the physical that is performed after the trade is made, IT might have to agree to the physical, but if he didn't, that would have given the Cavs reason to walk away before a trade was agreed to.

The Celtics and Cavs went on a conference call and agreed to 1 week + 24 hours for both teams to get physicals completed before making the deal official.

Boo hoo to the Celtics if they aren't happy with the Cavs making use of that time.

There is no evidence EITHER WAY and that is my only point. I trust the Cavs medical staff.

If the deal gets voided, I'll be happy cause to me that means IT has a high liklihood of missing signifigant time this season .

If the deal goes through, I'll be happy cause to me that means IT will not miss signifigant time this season.

Im trying to think of a bigger NBA trade...

to be honest i cant really think of one....

the Shaq deal to Miami was huge---- but the only ("only"- Shaq) major asset going either way was Shaq.

the Butler trade was big but not nearly on this scale----

im trying to think of gigantic NBA trades that may eclipse this one in scope and im not coming up with much.

I don't think either will pass him. Especially if Stevens can get him to play some defense.
