Spin it any way you want but he had a trash playoff game and you want to pin your hopes on him?
The fact still remains that who do you replace him with? If you start over you are going into a rebuild barring a trade for JimmyG who is a downgrade. They dont have one the best rosters but still a win-now roster

He had one trash playoff game (his first playoff game every, btw) and you would give up on him? There is a long list of great, SB winning QB’s that have had bad playoff games. The signing was a market driven, no-brainer.

Call his bluff.....he had several years left on his deal.....and worse case they could have franchised him.

Going to be much harder to add players with that albatross contract.
Dude, Carr is an AAV of $40M. Same tier as Murray.
Once Herbert, Burrow and Jackson get paid they will likely be over $50M AAV.
Maybe Arizona isn’t set up for this like Cleveland has planned for this but it’s not like other teams don’t have to do the same thing

So you wait and pay him more or do the same thing, go into rebuild mode but wait a year. Doesn’t make sense

Both Carr and Murray are ranked 11 and 12 for me. Same tier. Neither are top 10 QB's.

$5M/year is chump change

Remember, you are the guy that wanted the Raiders to trade Carr and now he is making $40M/year LOL

Funny thing is Carr has played in as many playoff games as Murray and he's been in the league for 8 years. He has the same record 0-1. He's not a top 10 QB and didn't play like it last season.

and what if he plays well as he has shown he has in the past....Couple years from now this deal could look like a bargain.

Murray is better than Carr. It’s not even a debate.
I was pretty dismissive of him coming out of college mostly because I didnt think his frame would hold up for a long time in the NFL. That said, I think Im closer to just being worried about all of these young QB running the ball too much. Obviously Lamar, but also Josh Allen and Mahomes. Burrow takes too many hits, too, but that had more to do with his oline.

My issue here really isnt the contract. I think they could parlay this into a situation much like Watson had with Houston. Hopkins, a speedy receiver as a deep threat, an offensive head coach that doesnt get a lot of respect. That pendulum could swing towards SB contender or dumpster fire and its hard to see a concrete long-term plan outside of QB.

As an aside, the week 1 matchup against the Chiefs is a super weird matchup.

With 6 starters on offense being 30 to 33 Cardinals need to try to win now and riding Colt McCoy or McSorley isn't a viable option and the possible available QBs are not attractive so they had to have Murray. Would of been nice to have a couple of more years to know what you have because Murray is a mixed bag, looking great at times and looking horrible at times, but QBs have so much leverage in the NFL now a days that teams are forced to do things like this.

This… exactly. It was a no-brainer. The market and QB situation is what it is.

I legit have to start wondering if teams are going to pull a Seattle and just tank hard to get a good QB for 5 years that is cheap as hell. Tom Brady regularly took huge discounts, and Rodgers/Mahomes/Wilson/etc. have done FUCK all once they got their big money. Herbert and Burrow are on borrowed time before they tank their team lol.

Seems like taking a QB via the draft and retaining for 5 years (with the 5th year option) getting that player super cheap is the way to go.

Mahomes is already finished. He's taking up too much cap and Burrow/Herbert are still cheap AF.

WRs, DEs, and OTs cost so much right now that you could argue getting rookie versions of those could offset QB contract issues

The Begnals arent a SB contender because they have Burrow on a rookie contract. Its because they have Burrow, Chase and Higgins

I mean fair. OTs aren't too bad - it's just impossible to find them in free agency. DEs are super pricy but IMO 100% worth it and WRs are just beyond insane atm.... I guess since it's a passing league the market for wideouts is at an all time high, but I would not be willing to pay DK Metcalf $30M+ as a Seahawks fan. I know some Seahawks fans may blast me on this, but the guy produced on deep ball routes with the best deep ball QB in the league. His catch to target rate isn't that great as well and while I could argue that was Wilson's/Carroll's doing, when Metcalf is matched up against a good corner he does jack fuck all.

Someone on the Seahawks forum mentioned trading Metcalf to Parsons (Dallas) and whether we should do it, and I was 100% YES on that.
