Being "worth" a certain amount, and having that amount of money liquid are not the same thing.

I get what you are saying though, and I don't disagree. The way the NFL is set up, especially with the cap, something catastrophic would have to happen for an owner/organization not to be able to pay a contract.

Cards didn't really have a choice. He's shown he can be really really good but making the same AAV as Watson is not ideal. He isn't close to Watson as a QB. Hell of an athlete though and he has his great moments. We will see what the Brown acquisition does for him. If he can't vault the Cards up with all these weapons when DeAndre comes back...it doesn't look good for his future other than he is making a shit ton of money.

He still looked good for about 1/3 of the season, an MVP candidate for a 1/3 of the season, and a bum for about 1/3 of the season.

The Cardinals pushed all of their chips in on their offense that past two seasons, though. Their opponents PPG was basically even with KC last year and they let Chandler Jones walk. That defense wont get it done. Nuk, Hollywood Brown, Ertz. They're going to have to be that scary offense and they dont get it done without a top 10 QB.

Cardinals never had leverage in this QB situation. Murray was already getting a huge bag.

Cardinals signed QB Kyler Murray to a five-year, $230.5 million contract extension.​

Murray's deal includes $160 million guaranteed and gives Murray the second-highest paid quarterback average salary at $46.1 million per year. Murray was electric in early 2021 before an ankle injury and the absence of DeAndre Hopkins appeared to impact his play down the stretch. Hopkins will miss the first six games of 2022, but Murray's Oklahoma running mate Marquise Brown should help the newly extended quarterback start the season hot. Murray is now signed through 2028 with HC Kliff Kingsbury signed through 2027. The Cardinals are likely to have frustrating, horizontal raid lows, but with Murray under center, they have upside to develop into an elite offense once Hopkins returns to the lineup.

This is how the QB market works. ROY, 2pro bowls. Only QB in History to throw 70 tds and run for 40 in their first three years. 3-13 team before he arrived, etc., etc., etc.

Anybody who is shocked by this extension either doesn’t understand the market or simply loves to hate.

By NFL standards that is bottom-5. Throw in the bigger issue is cash on hand. Right now the Bengals are one of the poorer franchises when it comes to cash available that they would have to put in Escrow. Part of why they have struggled to get a deal done with their safety as well.

Cash is king in the NFL and it is why teams like the Rams can sign all of their big name guys and still have cap room to work with. Sam with the Saints or Cowboys. There really is becoming a bit of a divide and somewhat advantage for those teams that have more cash on hand to work contracts in their favor.
