There aren't a lot of fans that agree with Jimmy junior at the moment. But from a pure business point of view, every dollar you throw at Kobe gets you 10 back.

Is there a business study to verify this claim?

How about the summer of 2015? I don't think that Kobe will be happy concluding his career as a mentor to some young role players who can't help him compete for another championship.

I think he should 1st get through this season to see if he can even finish of his career going foward & see if in 2015 we can go after Kevin Love. After that other top FA like Westbrook & Durant aren't available until 2016, it's sad but true.

Actually, Marc Gasol and LaMarcus Aldridge are both set to become unrestricted free agents in the summer of 2015. If the Lakers possessed the cap space and financial flexibility to ink two of the three among Gasol, Love, and Aldridge (say, Gasol and either Love or Aldridge), Los Angeles could make one more championship run before Bryant rides off into his mansion.

Now, I'm not saying that all three of those players, or even two of them, will necessarily become free agents in the end, or that even if they do, the Lakers would sign two of them. But if any franchise could pull off the feat, it might be the Lakers, and keeping that option open should have been imperative.

Dr. Buss verified it a few years ago. Likely still holds true. Isn't he like currently 2nd in the league in the jersey sales?

I would sign Love or Aldridge, but not both. A bit of duplicity at the PF spot. Sign one and spend the money on a dominant backcourt player, say Love in 2015 and Westbrook in 2016.

Love and Westbrook make sense. But what is interesting about Marc Gasol is he started with us and we traded him for Pau some time ago. May be they'll return the brothers to their original positions after this year.
