The Mariners have been reported to be tapped out of money, yet sources say they made a run at old friend Kendrys Morales.
Word is they first proposed a two-year idea before offering a modest one-year number (believed to be close to $5 million) designed to fit Morales' goal to hit the free-agent market again next year before he shocked folks by signing with the Twins for significantly more.

Good Lord. This team is not a buyer. You don't trade the future in an attempt to make a one game playoff. You trade the future if you have control of the division and want to ensure a deep playoff run for a title. If anything, this team should do nothing or sell on Rodney or Kuma. Not that I want that to happen, but those would be the veteran guys that another team might want for a playoff run.

It all depends on the cost. Like I just wrote in a different thread, if you can do a Cliff Lee type deal where you trade pieces that don't hurt you in the future like we did and then say trade him at next years deadline for pieces, then it is a win-win. If you are talking Walker/Paxton/Peterson type guys for a one year rental, then no way. If they would be dumb enough to take guys like Ramirez, Maurer, Almonte, Smoak, and/or Franklin, then pull the trigger already (not all those guys but a combo of them).

Yeah, I would be fine trading AAAA guys for him if they can pull that over on them. Knowing our luck a couple of them will turn out to be perennial All Stars.

first, free agents won't come here unless they get overpaid by a lot. they tried again with morales before he signed with the twins, and he wanted no part of it. even if the m's had offered him as much as the twins ended up giving, he wouldn't stay here. he's not alone. in short, this team struggles to attract good hitters.

second, the org can't develop MLB offense. it just can't, and there is no argument against this. outside of seager and maybe jones, the real producers on this team's offense (which is still last or next to last in the league) are from outside the organization.

if the m's can't get free agents to come, and the system is woefully incompetent at developing its farm talent into MLB calibre offensive players, the only option left is to trade prospects for what other teams have developed.

it's the very definition of a catch 22, though, because the idea of Z bumbling his way through trades with superior GMs is terrifying.

I haven't followed the coaching moves of the teams minor league system all that closely, so if there has been a lot of turnover, I don't know about it. If there hasn't been much turnover, then the team should really think about doing that, because whoever's down there developing these guys into MLB players has been incompetent for years. That's not even touching upon the incompetence of the MLB hitting coaches that have been here.

There really is no reason that Ackley, Smoak, Seagar, Miller and others haven't shown any real improvement since coming up, and several are actually worse *cough* Ackley. I like HoJo, but someone has to figure out how to make these players take a step forward, and they haven't done it this season, that's for sure.

Just saw it. Was wondering if somebody would start a new thread, but this works great.

With the Mariner's luck Stephen Pryor will recover from all of his injuries and become an elite closer for the next decade lol

I don't think there's much he could say to back peddle those comments, we as fans will just have to get over it. I was annoyed at the time over the comments but I don't care anymore. Its not like he'll be miserable here or anything.

If he stays healthy, you can count on it.

Fortunately, we don't have a lack of pen arms.

We didn't give anything up for him much like the Morrison trade, but probably not getting much in return either much like the Morrison trade.

How much money did Kendrys lose out on by sitting out half the year so he wouldn't have to play in Seattle. Now we went and traded for his ass!

They actually tried very hard to keep him around with offers last season, this past offseason, and up to the draft.

Given his numbers in 40 games this year, paying him the remainder of his contract this year is better than the $14 mill they would have given him for 1 year, and $30 mill they offered him for 3.

Hopefully a winning team and a different clubhouse atmosphere than he experienced last year will change his mind about playing here, but like I said before... He doesn't have to be happy, he just has to hit. Unfortunately, he hasn't been doing a whole lot of that since he signed with Minny in June.

Anyone wanna chime in on how long it takes before Hart is sent packing, either by trade or DFA?

I'm guessing they'll DFA him within the next 24 hours.

Trade him for a batboy maybe?
